I am waiting permission to remote in and investigate. I earlier sent a screen shot to them and asked them to confirm all of that but what was a crisis 45 minutes ago seems to have been replaced in the priority list by lunch.

I have found at times I need to change an application from Max to something less and then I can drag that app from one monitior to the other, then maximizing the app window. I’ve seen the same thing when trying to move apps from the second monitor back to the primary.

Here is what our tech from Indiana reported:
The comment that it was an old file was a bit misleading – they make changes and save it with a new name each month. I did find out that when the file is smaller (at the beginning of the year), there is no issue – by the last 3 months or so of the year is when they start having issues. I suggested that instead of adding to it every month, they just start over every month to keep it small, and they are going to try that.

So thanks for the suggestions and we’ll see if this was just a grossly oversized file or some other smoking gun is discovered.

Thanks all, I have forwarded your comments to our man in Indy and am waiting for some feedback. If there is a smoking gun I will report back with additional kudos.

    • in reply to: Do not save encrypted page (IE 6 SP2 ) #1090057

Thanks. We got it working by toggling the setting using the “advertised program” that we use in our locked down environment. I had the client run this script which runs with elevated rights but it was not working. I had her run it after confirming the status of the check box for “do not save”…. then try her web page downloads again. So after running the script twice it was toggled correctly but I could not find my notes on the registry setting which would have enabled me to confirm status the first time.

Apparently my remote user is content to leave Word turned off as email editor so I have yet to get real feedback on whether they have tried this and they also have not taken the time to have me rename, delete the Word normal.dot template to test for that file’s corruption.

Outlook 2003 SP2, Word 2003 SP2, MS patches up to date.

The issue was when the client tried to create messages using Outlook and Word as editor. No font would display, as if white on white but a red underline would appear as if there was a mispelling. I think the line was squiggily red and not straight.

Once Word was deselected as the email editor no problem which is why I am wondering about the NORMAL.DOT.

Tomorrow will be the earliest I can check to see if renaming that file makes a difference or if this issue occurs when I log in to the machine using my profile.

Sorry, I forgot all about this as I found the answer quickly. The Intel graphics software had the short cuts in their menus.

IE 6.x is the browser, unless this guy is in a pilot program.

Thank you both for the information.

I don’t use hibernation and disable it whenever I log in on any machine but I asked a question on behalf of someone that DOES choose to use the feature.

So far, I don’t see the “recording” option you and the article mention. Right clicking the CD in either Windows Explorer or My Computer and selecting properties does not show me a recording option on any of the tabs.

I am checking this on my desktop but will pull out my laptop which is not the same model as the client’s but I would be surprised if I find a recording option listed for a standard CD unit.

Not a burner so no versions of either software package.

No, the drive does not spun up with left clicking, however, it will spin up when the client places a disk in the drive. Client says he has not installed any software on this machine at all.

No errors appear and nothing in the event log for the time when the last read was attempted.

      Thanks.

Nothing in the event logs but I have asked client to attempt to view a disk and note the time so I can go back in and review. I don’t recall seeing any message upon left click when I actually stopped by earlier. I have asked client to confirm this.
