Sure, it is a tough one to remember: Doug’s Windows 95/98/Me/XP/Vista Tweaks and Tips

After failing to find “the” difference between my registry and another new imaged machine I went back to Doug Knox web site and ran his Folder Association Fix and LNK File Association Fix and one of them has repaired my registry so I now have the default behavior back. My menu entries for folders and the Quicklaunch toolbar shortcuts to folders is normal.

Now the only abnormal item in the office is the guy using the keyboard to type this message.

Thanks again for suggestions and questions.

Due to potential virus issues we disable the system restore feature.

What I have suggested to t he client is open Excel and then resize the application so it is not maximized on one of the monitors. Stretch Excel so it displays on both monitors, expanding the height and width as desired. Then open the first file and size it to fill the left hand monitor and then open the second file so it fills the right hand monitor.

Since this is one instance of Excel, copy and paste special operations should work as normal yet allow the files to be more easily viewed than if they were both displaying on one monitor using the windows “arrange” options.

      We’ll see.

Thanks. I have suggested both options.

Here’s what I learned… the users are copying from Outlook into Excel so I think they are just encountering the nature of the beast and the comment about only 2 users might be a red herring. I suspect only these two users are copying and pasting and only pasting into this file. I thought other users and other files behaved differently.

I have shared with them the above information about text wrap being off by default.

If there is no way to turn such a feature on globally or for a range in advance then I shall put a fork in their incident.

      Thanks,

Zoombrowser was developed by Canon but I am not sure if it was the app that automatically recognized when the digital camera was connected and then led me through the uploading process. If I could find another uploading utility that worked with 98se I’d try it.

Thanks for the link however you can not download the older versions. If you follow the link you end up at the latest version or 6.x and that will not work with older OS.

The top of the details at the download URL say:
      ZoomBrowser EX Updater
      Version 6.1.1a
      Released on 02-06-2008

…and at the bottom it is clearly not for the older OS.

      Bingo!

Though off for the strangest of US holidays, Columbus Day, I emailed the fellow who was dealing with this issue and although he had recreated the file based upon the previous version he replied that, “Yes”, he does have a dual monitor configuration and when the windows were arranged as suggested he was happy as a clam. He even said he’d pay more attention to the dual monitor impact if ever this type of scenario appeared in Excel or other apps.

      Thanks for the detective work!!

You are correct about native zip handling so I am now trying to get the offshore client to confirm what they were using to handle the zip files. We have an enterprise license for those who need it and our script does work for W2K.

      Thanks for the confirmation.
