I work on several machines with a mix of Win7, Win8.1 and Win10. You might make your suggestion more visible in a separate sticky for those using older Windows OS’s. Just a suggestion.

      Thanks again.

      Thanks Sudo, I’ll do that.

Executing a Fortran program within Visual Studio 2015.

Next time it hangs I’ll try the app.,

It appears to be intermittent, has always been difficult to solve in such situations.

      nothing, see attached

Came across this link which toward the bottom recommends BlueScreenView. I found the app to provide useful info related to crashes.

      Thanks folks!

Paul T – your link helped and it was the sys reporting a problem with the motherboard, i.e. not supported. This setup have been running for several years but I updated the bios (which might have been a problem) and cranked the overclock back some. So far good, I’ll slowly crank the overclock back up.

satrow – I’ll do the dump next time. Thanks.

    • in reply to: Where are desktop icons stored #1585779

Before, they used to be in C:UsersAppdataLocalIconCache.db but in Win 10 they are located in –

      C:UsersAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsExplorer

according to an article I downloaded to reset mine, but when I did a search for it, it said it couldn’t be found but YMMV.

      Sudo,

Mine was a mix of C:UsersDesktop and C:UsersPubicDesktop depending on how I installed the application, i.e. only for me or generally to anyone.

Thank you for taking the time to reply!!!

Thanks Rick! I saved the app for future use.

      Thanks also to Coochin!

In my case I had a backup stored and could recover some original icons/links. They were stored in C:UsersPublicDesktop or C:UsersDesktop depending on how I installed the applications.

    • in reply to: Nothing but problems trying to install VS 2015 on Win10 #1584881

You could try this –> http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/apps_windows_10-winapps/unable-to-install-vs2015-on-windows-10/c7184b9b-9370-4945-8f45-7db5c53ec621

Thanks Bender but it didn’t help. Even downloaded an ISO and tried to install via that route, no luck.

I noted the double posting on the other since it seemed the better forum. Should have deleted this one.

    • in reply to: Changing app installation location #1583135

Office is hard-coded to install to C:Program Files. Not all programs, however, are hard-coded but instead default to C:Program Files.

I have most of my applications/programs (not Apps) installed in a “Program Files” folder on another partition. Some installation routines will offer a choice openly, others can be rerouted during the installation setup before installation actually begins.

There is a utility from Funduc Software called Application Mover that can move most installed programs to another partition. They recommend not moving Office.

Thanks bbearen, I’ll give Application Mover a try.

    • in reply to: default browser? #1577552

Appears that deleting and creating the email account may have done the trick. Fingers remain crossed but makes it had to type.

    • in reply to: default browser? #1577468

Thanks mledman. I had done all that EXCEPT deleting the email account. I’ll see if that does it.

      Crosses fingers!

Thanks Rick. Those are all set correctly.
