I guess that I am a little surprised at your statement. If you follow the user-level security wizard and remove the admin from the admins group, how can a user break it if they join another workgroup? I was under the impression that it was completely secure. How can I make it completely secure?

Thanks for all the insight! You learn something new everyday….

Thanks for the reply. It is a database thatwas created in house and I applied Access user-level security. I was able to locate the problem. The network tech associated a path with the database and connected the mdw file so it was not letting me in. Once he broke the connection, I was able to open the copy and make the necessary changes for the other users.

      Thanks,
      Deborah

That was my problem….is that a bug, that it does not immediately go to the database instead of the table.

Thanks for your help!!! I really thought I was going crazy.

      Charlotte,

I have assign more than read permissions to everything. The data entry people can not print reports so I did not change anything there.

When I double click on the icon and log in as a data entry person, I get the error message then.

I am unsure about changing the ownership. Can you explain that again. I have my Developer user with admin rights and it seems to have all the rights to every option. I have a user for Directors who can print and enter data and data entry group who can only enter data.

I have deleted the secure file and the .mdw file and started over but still no luck. I don’t understand. I do have a lot of vb attached to my reports. Would this be causing problems?

      Thanks,
      Deborah

      Mark,

Thanks for the reply. I have tried using a crosstab query and then producing the report from the query. The problem is design. A crosstab will only allow you to calculate one field not 70 fields. I would have to create a crosstab for every option and then link them together based on chart number. This would bog me in the mud! I have a query produced that gives me the correct totals by department. I have tried displaying with the Page setup and columns. It gives me the correct data but I can not display my standards on the left as row headings. I have it working in a pivot table but can not get the pivot table to print correctly from my switchboard. I will be sharing this data with about 200 directors and they need to click a button and get a report. The pivot table requires, Edit, go to excel and print. UUUGGGHHH!

I really need to redesign this monster but I don’t have the time to do it.

      Thanks again!

Thanks for your suggestions. I think a redesign is in the near future!!! I have been able to get the program to work. I have created another table and linked by date. I also created a subform to be able to enter the correct information and a subreport to print the data out.

      Thanks again!

Thanks for the clarification!!!! The formula works great and I appreciate all the post!

      Thanks,

Whenever I received your post through my email it had < before the last date range. I can follow the logic up until I hit this. I know the & is a concatenation character but what are the others? The formula works great!!

      Thanks,
      Deborah

I don’t have a password set for the entire database. I only have passwords for the users.

      thanks

    • in reply to: Secure or NOT??? #523754

I went through the security wizard. Created groups and added users to the groups. I also limited the amount of actions that each group can perform. I don’t know about the exclusive option. What should I do mow?

      Thanks for your assistance.

You could put the =date() as a default value for the date field. The current date will always appear and if you need to change it, just type over it.

In your table, go to design view. Click in the field name box and press F1. Access’ online help is good. I hope this helps!

      Bill,

I have used this feature in the passed to display certain error messages for a DOT program. Create an unbound textbox and change the name under OTHER heading to STR1 not the control source. In your code, you define the STR1 as whatever.

      Hope this helps!

Thanks for the information. I am anxious to try it out, however, where do I put the code? Do I create a blank spreadsheet and type in the code in a VBA module? Sorry for being so slow…..

      I appreciate your help!
