AskWoody LoungerThanks Alan, Stuart and Doc for your suggestions. I will give them a whirl and keep my fingers crossed. Alan, a quick education if you don’t mind; what are tifs exactly? I’m sort of familiar with .tiff files which I believe is another type of picture file (I think). Is this the same thing? Doc, I’m not sure where I would look to check or uncheck compress files when running disk cleanup but when disk cleanup starts, it does say “compressing old files”. Is that what might be causing the problem re: not working?
Edit again: I really should think of everything before I post! Stuart, I’ve never logged into my computer as any one particular user. It justs boots up and tosses me into the fray. How do I go about logging in as another user? I really appreciate everyone’s time and expertise here! Thanks so much.

AskWoody LoungerThanks for the suggestions.
No window pops up when I try to delete them; just a “dinging” sound. I have tried removing them in safe mode – no luck. I thought your suggestion was sound regarding re-installing the product but that failed as well. Another interesting feature of this little exercise is that if I right-click one of these files to look at its properties, a window pops up and says “the properties for this item are not available”. Stubborn little critters.
Tonight I have emailed Kodak’s support and told them about the problem. Here’s hoping they have a solution to what is clearly a problem involving their software!
Thanks for your input on this one.

AskWoody LoungerThanks for the reply.
The dates are all around the beginning of September of this year. Interestingly enough, I just went to one of the file folders and looked again at these kooky files. When I click them one at a time, the file name is so long and convoluted that is spans the width of my monitor when I hover my mouse over it- all gobbledy-gook. About every fourth or so file, I actually get an image off to the side of explorer and it turns out to be pictures that my daughter has shared with her friends on MSN via Kodak EasyShare – a program I personally dislike and have removed a couple of times around that time frame. So now I’m thinking that this piece of software is responsible for these weird files but unfortunately, I can only remove the occasional one that actually shows the image. The many others remain stubbornly stuck.
Is there a way in DOS to clear out the temporary internet files at all? Apparently doing it manually just isn’t cutting it!
Edit: Hi Ken. Saw your message after I posted – fellow Canadian! I should have mentioned that I have run my spyware programs and have Spyware Blaster running along with another Pest control program. This is in conjunction with the usual virus scanner and firewall. My goodness, I thought I had this computer locked up like Fort Knox but in reality I know that the occasional nasty can still slip in. I’ve even run HiJackThis to see if anything untowards is lurking in the background, but to my semi-kind of-trained eye, I can’t see anything unusual.

AskWoody LoungerI happen to agree…I’n not a fan of automatically showing formatting. You may already know this, but you can switch track formatting off in each document by going to “Show” on the Reviewing toolbar and unchecking Format. That’s my quick fix for each document I do.

AskWoody LoungerThank-you Hans and Kaplinb. Very helpful.
Kaplinb, I didn’t know Microsoft changed their ways in this program with “export to” instead of “save as”…guess they don’t want us to get too comfortable

WSDeb G.
AskWoody LoungerSorry Hans, I should have specified.
Pictures currently open with MS Picture Manager which doesn’t seem to give an option to do a “save as”.

AskWoody LoungerGood one John!
Apparently I know my IT guy quite well as his answer, almost before all the words were out of my mouth, was no. (That’s OK…IT people like to say no initially – it’s just their nature
).
I think he just doesn’t have enough information on it, so I sent him a whack of stuff to read. In his defense, we do have a lot of restrictions as our email system is housed by a third party that governs 42 of our offices province wide. However, I’m not finished working on him yet so I may be able to use this solution yet. Thanks again to all.

AskWoody LoungerThanks Jerry. That’s very helpful having your take on .PST files. I appreciate everyone taking the time to bring me up to speed on this.

AskWoody LoungerThanks, Hans.
I’ll just take a deep breath and go see my IT director now….(he’s notorious for saying “no” to most everything!)

AskWoody LoungerThanks John.
I’ve just finished reading this MS article, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?…kb;en-us;297019%5B/url%5D, and now I’m confused. Is this article saying that .PST’s shouldn’t be used as a permanent solution to email size management? Also, am I correct when I say that the .PST files are NOT on the server? If they aren’t on the server, why would it be a problem to use .PST files for long-term email storage? I’m just trying to have as much information at hand as possible for when I go to my IT director with this. Thanks for your time/education with this one!

AskWoody LoungerThanks John.
Prior to reading your post, I went through the help files again. I’ve been reading about Personal Storage files and wondered if you or anyone else has had any experience with them. To be honest, it does sound as though these PST files are exactly what I’m looking for: a way to keep emails (and still view them within Outlook) but not store them on the server.

AskWoody LoungerThanks Leif.
I think 02 is different than 03 as I can’t find anything similar to what you are describing. I don’t have an Outlook Bar or if I do, it’s not activated. I did a sweep through the help files and it only refers to creating an additional public folder. I’ve even right clicked in every conceivable area to see if something would pop up that would help but so far nothing.

WSDeb G.
AskWoody LoungerAnd a brilliant suggestion it is!
I will certainly do just that. Thank-you.

WSDeb G.
AskWoody LoungerSolved.
After much playing around, I found the following in case anyone else needs to do this. Under Customize View: Set Group By: Categories. Set Sort (and choose the field you want sorted; in my case it was the “file as” field) to Ascending.
This has done the trick.

AskWoody LoungerWow!!
Stuart, your code is exactly what our staff is looking for! I tested this on 3 different pending-approval documents and it is amazing! Many thanks.
May I ask how I make this code available in any Word document? I’m relatively new to macros. Thanks again!
