I’ve been DOS/Windows computing for 31 years. This article is the first I’ve read on Linux. Very clearly written and a gold mine of information.

    • in reply to: Uninstall 7, install 6 ?? (IE7 with XP Pro) #1070228

Many thanks to you both. I can see I tried to be too brief. There’s no doubt that IE 7 is the more secure browser, but it cripples Eudora’s option of using the “Microsoft Viewer”, thwarting the really nice feature of scaling the display fonts in emails (using control+scroll wheel on the mouse). Moreover, some emails print in large type (contrary to what appears in Print Preview) and I’ve found no way of correcting this. Eudora crashes frequently when IE 7 is active, so I’ve switched to Firefox. IE is now needed only for Microsoft’s updates, and I figure IE 6 will work just as well for that.

Hans, I understand your warning to be about security, not system instability. Right? And thanks again for your comments.

      Thanks Bob
That will certainly find a reply that has not been filed in some forgotten folder. Rather than looking for a Reply message, I was hoping that the original message could display evidence of action taken, as Eudora does.

    • in reply to: Drive Image 2002 won’t run #967686

(Edited by DaveH on 22-Aug-05 09:51. Updated)

A lot can change in 24 hrs! bravo Have now installed True Image, after trying the suggestions earlier in the thread. DI 2002 would boot from the floppies, but could not see any hard drives to save an image to. TI runs much more sweetly than DI ever did — thanks Al. What remains is to clean up the master boot record, because I’m still getting that Err 14 message about the fake floppy and have to press a key to boot. Unless anyone has a better idea, I will run FIXMBR from the Recovery Console, as discussed here:

      Thanks Al, Liberty and others
Much appreciated. Plenty to think about and try there. Could be a busy Sunday — which will include taking a look at True Image (that’s quite a thread!). For me DI 2002 ran fine under Win2K for 2 years (and previously OK under Win98SE). Will report anything useful.

      Hello Paul
It’s a tiny part of Woody’s Office Power Pack, which you buy for your version of Office by going here:

Have fun. The envelope printing module is fantastic. Cheers (it is Friday evening after all)

Thanks Phil, and Hans. Yes, I might explore those kind of fixes or, now that I know what’s going on, just live with it. Sometimes it’s simpler to re-program me than the software. But I will take a look at the code in the macro. All the best.

Yes Hans. FileSaveAs.Main, courtesy of WOPR. So the behaviour is a WOPR feature?

Phil & Jefferson, those are great ideas, which I will road test in coming days. You’ve given me some great homework. Is this what humans are for? Not if I can automate it. Naturally I don’t tell my clients that. wink One odd thing I’ve noticed over the years: there seem to be more missing stops at the end of paragraphs than within them. Can anyone comment on that? Must have been some behavioural studies.

    • Thanks Andrew. As a cool modern Lounger I’ve decided not to go too far back in time (Word 97), so will leave the h switch for making each entire line a hyperlink. It’s probably helpful to those who cannot aim their cursor at a small target like a page number. BTW, z was also there by default. It hides tab leader and page numbers in Web Layout view. All the best.
