I was looking at the same thing a bit recently. Usually RP streams the files from the internet with max download rate. It saves them as tmps in your temporary folder. If you have a way of noticing when they are done downloading you can copy them from there.
The problem just begins there though: It seems like they are not really a known file type RealPlayer will not open them as such. I have not found a way to get around that yet bummer

I myself was using ws_ftp for a while as well, and do not think that it is very comfortable.
A cool software for more than FTP is EFCommander but it is not free. Heard good critics about BulletProof FTP as well.

    • in reply to: Static Vs Dynamic IP Addressing #596395

I have to agree with Stuart there.
Using non dynamic IP addressing for larger amounts of machines will very likely get you in an overhead of a relatively manual administering and keeping track of ip addresses. DHCP allows you to administer ip ranges, and not really worry about single machines.
In case you need (for some reason) static IPs for certain machines there are possibilities to also handle those through dhcp.
For testing purposes I have a DHCP server running on my router in my home lan. In that case the setup was not very difficult as there are only very few machines there but it is very practically in case I come by with a laptop and need to get it hooked up to the internet:
      – plug it into the switch
      – boot (the laptop has some problems with sleep mode grovel or else I wouldn’t have to reboot either)
      => network + internet

I am using a notebook in three different network environments. The easiest solution we found was to use dhcp on all sites. I even get internet at all sites
The most interesting thing was that at one place we did not install a dhcp server, and it worked. We found out later that our hardware DSL router had one activated…
At home I am using a PC running Linux as router, dhcpd, and what not…

      Hope this helps…

if you want to check if your provider supports PHP (another server side scripting language) just put something like this:

into a text file with an ending of php or php3 (both common, depends on server configuration). if you want to know some more about that feel free to ask.

. actually you can use a lot of different things to get the top off of beer bottles. we have used lighters, spades (are a bit unhandy),… it is even supposed to work with a folded newspaper.
actually I was not talking about the wand for that but the palm it self, as you have a better edge on it…

    • in reply to: Linux/Java/HTTPS #594749

I am not sure if this helps in your special problem or not but you should make sure that your https webserver is listening on one IP by itself.

in case you have one of these reboot buttons on your pc, which is too small to access it with a finger, you can use the “wand”.

I have not yet decided on a good HTML editor, so I still fiddle around with notepad, and once in a while use things like PHPedit which is actually intended for usage wirth PHP… For HTML you might also want to check out Phase 5 (it is German though bummer)

Check out JavaScript Source for JavaScripts…

depending on when you want the code executed it might help to have the code executed as last line in the HTML body this sometimes works even better than the onload.

there is also the possibility of layering your text underneath a transparent image.

But as was the comment before, if the user checks her or his cache for the files your text is not safe.
