Closer still – however, there’s still an error in the math. The attachment is your modified sheet, with a yearly total added. I’ve underspent by $600 in the first 4 months and the annual budget total shows 12,666. This figure should remain at 12,000. I’d love to be able to create money this way but sadly it doesn’t happen.

Close!! I’d like to be able to see the future months available however, and putting zero in the future spends doesn’t add up. See my attachment as a purely graphical explanation.

Thanks for the hint. Here’s the bizarre thing – I send a message to a non-outlook account (I have a yahoo mail address) and the attachment, when downloaded consists of two files one called “file.txt” and one called “winmail.dat”.
If I then forward the whole message back to my outlook account the word document is back and readable!

The better clue is “Microsoft” programs..

    • in reply to: Neat Trick – Explorer #575880

This trick will work in any MS program where “explorer” like file finds are available (e.g. Outlook). It is useful there when you are moving messages to nested folders and don’t want to have to “pre-open” the destination folder.

It gets a bit annoying when you have a lot of nested folders as the window keeps scrolling to the right the further down you go. You then have to close them up again to get back to the root.

Also – be careful not to let the file go before you reach the intended folder.

      Replying to my own post!

Another barely documented Microsoft “Feature” comes to light. See Microsoft knowledge base article Q196982.

If a contact has multiple e-mail addresses e.g. jim@work, jim@home, jim@hotmail.com, only one is recognized by OL 2000 as the “default e-mail address”, and this is what shows when you search for the name after clicking the “To:” box when addressing an e-mail.

Do not despair! Add the default address to the e-mail, then right click on the address and the alternate addresses appear in a pull down list. Select which one you want.

So – to sum up – what was one mouse click is now 3!

Thanks for the hint. I also realised that I have Adobe PDF maker loaded. I tried turning off that toolbar, exiting Word, then restarting. That seemed to solve the problem of Normal.dot always saving on exit, even though the Macros still seem to be present. I have now turned the PDF toolbar back on and no longer notice the problem! Isn’t windows wonderful?

I’ve had a similar problem that just recently, evey time I close word the “Saving Normal.Dot” message and time bar appears at the bottom of the screen. I immediately assumed this was a word macro virus and scanned the normal.dot file with the latest McAfee virus scanner. Negative result. If I open a blank document and look at the loaded macros I find the following listed:
      AddOurToolbar
      DoPerfsForm
      DoPrintWithLinks
      GetStoredSettings

All of these have the Edit and Delete buttons grayed out. Even if I delete Normal.dot and restart Word, they re-appear. Are they harmless? Any suggestions on how to stop this resave happening each time I exit?
