In previous versions of Project there was a feature called Team Assign. You had to install the workgroup tools from a file called WGSetup. You could get the addin from the Project CD or from Microsoft as a free download. The features in these tools were substantially scaled down in Project 2002 when Microsoft introduced Project Server, but I beleive they were still available. I looked at Project 2003, but I have Project Professional so the Collaborate tools are different. As I recall you had an option to use this feature on the Resource toolbar. There are two fields you can add to any task view called Confirmed and Response Pending. These were how you managed what emails were sent and what was received. You additionally had to go to Tools Options and on the View tab check Automatically Accept New External Data, and on the Workgroup tab, set workgroup messaging to Email, and you could manage email accounts from Outlook from the Resource Information dialog box.

I don’t have Project 2003 Standard to look at, so this may give you a direction to look at.

Try going to Project ==> Project Information in the toolbar and in the Project Information dialog box assign the calendar you created with the eleven hour days as the base calendar for the project. Additionally check Tools ==> Options and on the Calendar tab make sure the settings synchronize with the base calendar you assigned.

I did not see an attached file, but depending on the way the timeline is formatted and the duration of the tasks you might take a look at Format ==> Layout. There is checkbox for “Round Bars to Whole Days” and it will be checked by default, try unchecking it, or try to zoom in on the Gantt Chart View. Project will not render some elements if you are zoomed out too much. For example Non-working days will display as gray bars if you have the bottom tier of the timescale set for days. If you zoom out to days count of three in the bottom timeasale tier the gray bars dissappear.

    • Yes, Take a look in Project help for the Import and Export Wizard.

    • in reply to: How to show planned hours per task as of Status Date #1160695

I used the Task Usage View to look at what you are wanting to display. I added the field called Remaining Work to the Task Usage Table. If your plan is updated as to what is complete it should show what you are looking for.

    • in reply to: Impact of Filtering on Cost Calculations #1160690

The Total Project Cost in the Project Statistics dialog box will remain the same if you filter the task list to exclued tasks by criteria, or if you expand or collapse the task list to hide tasks by levels.

    • in reply to: Milestone #1160688

I would view it as a task not a milestone. In Project a milestone is typically a task of 0 days duration. It has 4 hrs duration. You can make it a milestone by going to the Task Information dialog box in the Advanced tab there is a check box for make task a milestone, but the visual in the Gantt Chart is just the milestone marker for the start of the task. Like a lot of things in Project I usually go with what is easily recognized by those I am communicating the plan information to so simple is usually better.

    • in reply to: how to edit Global.mpt template #1149240

To make add to or remove items from the Global.mpt file Open Project and select Tools =>> Organizer and use the dialog box to make changes. To add custom items create the custom named item in single file then add it to the Global.mpt using the orgainzer.

    • in reply to: Data Definitions/Dictionary #1149239

I am completely new to MS Project and I need to start analysing the data, creating reports etc..

I have a list of all the custom fields we have defined here, however, I would like a list of all the MS Project defined fields.

I need to know whether a field is mandatory, the field type (date/text/free) etc..

Is there a document out there that lists all the fields in MS Project?

See the attqached zip file I obtained from one of the Microsoft sites. Not sure where I found it.l

    • in reply to: Non-Recurring events (Project 2003) #1146232

I think the only thing you can do for tasks that are the same and occur on non scheduled dates is to copy and paste the task multiple times and set the task to occur on a specific date by using a constraint. Constraints are set in Advanced tab of the Task Information dialog box. You would probably not include these tasks in the dependancy relationships because their fixed dates would take away form the ability of the project to dynamically readjust as task durations change.

Go to Format ==> Bar Styles and remove any items you are not using by using the cut rows command. Only the remaining items will be in your legend

    • in reply to: data sent from backend file (Access 2002) #1133680

I have heard the same, and am looking for some type of confirmation. It does takes a lot longer to develop a .NET front end, and to redevelop functioning systems seems to me to be an unnecesary effort. My recommendation has been just to move the back ends to SQL Server.

When you save a baseline in Project it copies the information in the current stored tables into baseline tables, so the baseline is part of the project file. If you want to see if a baseline has been saved for a project one method would be to select Projet ==>Project information from the menu bar and click the Statistics button in the lower left. In the statistics dialog box if the baseline fields have NA then this would tell you a baseline has not been saved for this project. To save a baseline select Tools ==> Tracking ==> Save Baseline. The Tracking Gantt view in combinatiion with the Variance table is a good way to see baseine compared to current. You can save up to I believe 10 full baselines and 10 Intirim baselines (schedule information only) in Project 2003. the Multiple Baseline Gantt view is designed to display the multiple saved baselines.

    • in reply to: Moving Access to a SQL 2005 Backend (Access 2003) #1122553

We are not continuing to use Access Security. We have have a Novell network so we are using SQL mixed mode authentication and managing permissions with database roles and schemas. We are also using single login for all databases. For Web applications there is another layer where the user has to authenticate with a network login and password through VPN LDAP. We have both Nortel and Cisco VPN available and for whatever reasons the Cisco is faster, but the Nortel is more reliable. This could be a technical problem not a product problem. I don’t have a lot involvement in the LAN group.
