I followed the on the link you provided. Didn’t work. AppleTalk was there, but couldn’t get printer to work. I had to download and install an AppleLaser Writer Utility for Windows first. Then everything was fine.

We also bought some software for $150 which hasn’t arrived yet, so I guess we can save some money.

We now have several PCs running various versions of Windows with wireless cards and several Macs all merrily printing to the same place.

      Cheers

      Thanks Kevin,

That’s the more along the lines of my original thinking. It’s nice to have both ways to do it.

      Works great. Thanks

I would call Legare’s calculation, return on investment.

In accounting, Ricky’s calculations are called gross margin and gross margin percentage.

Profit can be a little more complicated, if you’ve got some fixed costs, etc. but that wasn’t the question.

I’ve been checking the responses (or lack of) to your question because I also have the same problem. If you run across anything that’s not posted, please let me know.

      Thanks

I’m jumping in a little late, but I do a lot of statistical and mathematical writing so I’ve got to do lots of special symbols, double sub scripts, etc.

I used to use field codes all the time. For occasionally making an x bar or y bar they’re okay, but they don’t always work.

Now I almost always use Mathtype (the expanded version of Equation Editor). It’s a wonderful program. I couldn’t do without it.

(I don’t work for them or have any financial interest. I just like their product, plus they’ve always been very helpful whenever I couldn’t figure something out.

Thanks to both of you. Why doesn’t MS fix such obvious problems!?

All stats things, esp stats charts, are a big pain.

I don’t know how it got that way in the first place, but thanks for figuring this out.

I do have an example, but I’m not allowed to post .ppt files. I’ll try it zipped.

    • in reply to: Auto Numbering Problem (Word 2000 (9.0.2720)) #541225

Of course. I should have thought of that. I’ve had to do it for several other things before. Thanks so much.

      I’m sorry I wasn’t more specific.

Sometimes the indent for Level 1 increases from 0 to 0.75. When I click on the decrease indent button, level 1 and Level 2 reverse their indentation. For example

________Level 1 here (Ignore the leading ___ That’s to show the indent).
      Level 2 here.

Then when I go to Format styles to try and fix everything. I can’t get it to undo. I’ve tried using the paragraph formatting, the number customize formatting and it won’t change. Sometimes if I reboot, I can get things back to what I want. What I want is no indent for Level 1, or

      Level 1 here.
      _________Level 2 here.

    • in reply to: Favorites Toolbar (IE 5) #535842

I usually like to rearrange the menus. Take things out that I don’t use much. Then add some things that I use all the time to the toolbar.

In most other MS applications, you can customize and add keyboard shortcuts. When you go to customize toolbars in IE, the choices are only for the toolbars, and they’re pretty limited. For example, if I wanted to put the synchornize or import on the toolbar, I can’t. It’s not an option.

Not just a toolbar problem, but I’d like to have a print preview and be able to take out images when I print a mostly text page.

Another thing that I’d like to do, again not a toolbar problem is switch the search button from MSN to profusion or google.

      Thanks for listening.

Thanks guys! I think I’ve got it. I do have a “Links” Toolbar”. It was just an arrow by the Address Bar. I moved that up and now see how I can fix things up.

Why doesn’t MS let you customize Explorer menus and toolbars more? I’ve got IE 5.5 on my laptop. It’s the same as IE5.0. IE 7(?i think) on my Mac is much easier to use.

    • in reply to: Favorites Toolbar (IE 5) #535720

When I click on View, there is no Favorites to check or uncheck. But View/Explorer Bar/Favorites is checked.

Then when I have the Favorites open on the left side, I can’t drag them up to the main toolbar. I get a no-no sign.

Is there supposed to be a favorites menu to check? Or am I missing something? I can move the favorites around in the left window, but I’d like to have 2 or 3 on the main toolbar or just under it.
