Can I upgrade to W10 from W8 (not 8.1)? I never could get 8.1 to install properly, so I am still on 8.

I would advise at this time to install on a new partition and keep Win8 so you switch back and forth as needed until the full release comes out.

I’m with you. There’s enough trouble with waiting to see if updates are OK and still having issues. I can’t imagine the havoc with forced updates. MS has no idea what hardware, peripherals and software I might have on my system. BAD idea!

I am curious. Are any Win7 users on older hardware, circa 2010-2011 finding any driver issues with Win10? (I have not yet had the time to install and try the Tech Preview.)

I have Win 8.1 on a new HP laptop, just installed Win10 Preview. So far the only hardware issue is not being to shut off my touch pad. Will most likely have to find new drivers.

I have absolutely NO sympathy for folks that don’t read warnings. Almost any site for d/l and installing major software/updates warns about not installing without first doing a backup or image or installing on a secondary system. I don’t know how many times ‘friends’ or family have whined about losing data or screwing up their systems and when asked when was the last time they backed up I get a blank stare. Idiots.

Don’t stop with just an iPad – let’s go with a wrist watch. OH, don’t complain that that little window is too small to get any work done…. Ok, maybe an iPad is OK for writing letters to Aunt Susan or checking email. But, really, replace my PC with a pad? Get real. I can just imagine editing photos in Photoshop or writing legal documents. Pads are toys for most of us. They will NEVER replace a PC.

Does M$ ever survey real world users to find out what we want and need? I can see that by the time Win 7 is no longer supported I’ll be buying a Mac. Tablets may be fine for limited use, but not for spreadsheets, highly formatted docs, or photo and graphic work. I use two monitors and usually have 3 to 5 apps going at the same time. Win8 will definitely not work for me. I’m so sick of M$ shoving their idea of how we should work down our throats. I HATE the Office Ribbon and am buying a third party app to be able to go back to the ‘old’ menu. My employer gave us a copy to Office 10 for our home systems – I never bothered installing it. If it weren’t for compatibility issues I’d be sticking with an older version of Office.
