      Who cares?

Thanks to everyone. I now have a solution to my problem.

    • I had a similar problem with a friend’s laptop running Vista after installing a new router. The laptop used a wireless connection and it indicated that the connection was successful. However IE and Windows Mail wouldn’t connect. I went through all kinds of suggestions, restarting everything, downloading and installing latest wireless driver in the laptop, examining DHCP addresses, etc. and nothing worked. (You would find my posts on this forum). My friend finally used the Geek squad and they stated that it was the result of an incompatibility among security settings between IE and the router. Once resolved it works perfectly. Unfortunately I don’t have details as to the exact fix.

A friend of mine had a similar problem after installing a new wireless router. His wife’s laptop running Vista and Windows Mail used a wireless connection and it showed that the wireless connection was good. However, her IE9 and email wouldn’t connect. I tried just about everything with no success but a professional service fixed it stating that the problem was a security setting incompatibility. Unfortunately I have no further details on it.

    • in reply to: Word 2007 inserting multiple pictures causes them to move #1305716

I couldn’t agree more with Pam. Enter/Edit all of your text first (perhaps adding comments to remind you where to add inserts). Then insert pictures or other entities (text boxes, etc.) starting at the top of the document and working your way down, moving and adjusting inserts as necessary to fit the pages. If you don’t start at the top then inserting a picture above other inserts can result in re-pagination which can really mess up your formatting.

Thanks for your suggestions. My friend ran out of patience and bought a new router. I’ll have to wait and see if that solves her problem.

It will take me some time as it is a friend’s computer and they live several miles away. I’ll see if I can get them to do it.

    • in reply to: Wireless Router Won’t Connect #1304476

Probably not as IE9 doesn’t connect on my friend’s wireless network. So how do we make sure it gets a valid IP?

    • in reply to: Wireless Router Won’t Connect #1304472

I don’t think there is anything wrong with the WiFi adapter because the laptop works flawlessly on other wireless networks. It seems to me that there must be something wrong with that particular router’s set up.

We followed all the instructions that came with the router including inserting the CD into the laptop and letting it configure away. So something is missing. I just don’t know what. To repeat. The laptop shows that the wireless connection has been successfully made, but IE9 just won’t connect to it.

    • in reply to: Desktop applications taught in school? #1303168

I manage a computer training program at our local Senior Center where we offer beginning and intermediate classes on XP, W7, and iMac as well as MS Word and Excel. We also offer one-on-one tutoring on most other subjects such as PPoint, Email and Internet, Access, etc. The class materials are specifically oriented toward seniors who do not learn as fast as the younger crowd and who in many cases have no prior experience with computers so they require some special coaching. It helps a lot in that our classes are limited to three students per instructor. All instructors are volunteers and class tuition is very low covering only our costs for computers and software.
If interested in teaching seniors don’t hesitate to contact me.

Try this. Move your cursor pointer to the very top edge of the “paper”. You should see a double headed up/down arrow inside a small box. Double click and see if your top and bottom margins show up.

Now that’s a great idea. Thanks.

That’s basically what I did. I created new linked tables and deleted the old ones. At least that works.
