AskWoody LoungerLugh – thanks so much for spending time on my hassle. I ended up taking it to a local technician, only to find the the front audio (green) plug in the cpu was broken. I came home and attached my earphones to the back inlet and so far, all is dandy. Some quality – a new machine is shipped with a broken plug!! But that said, all is well again and my CPD hours are being caught up again!!
Thanks, Lugh!! -

AskWoody LoungerI am in the same position – I recently had a complete crash due to a previous patch – something no-one needs especially as it’s my work computer….. Added to the problem as yours above, the version of my Office 2010 is 14.0.6029.1000. How do I get it up to 14.0.7122.5000, as suggested by Susan?
Wish I was a computer fundi, but I’m not. -

AskWoody LoungerI still do not know where to find the decisions made as to install or hold off non-security patches by Susan Bradley. I seem to go around in a circle here…

AskWoody LoungerThanks for the help – I’ll hide them – thanks for replying.

AskWoody LoungerNope, Rapport was binned a long time ago as it caused too much trouble….

AskWoody LoungerThank you!!

AskWoody LoungerThank you so much for all the tips received – especially the one about “System Watcher” in Kaspersky – turned it off and there was an immediate improvement. It’s heartwarming to have been assisted by so many kind viewers – thanks to you all! Oh, and happy Easter…!

AskWoody LoungerI know this was posted months ago, but I have been looking for the same thing – thanks to your reply – I found the “missing” patches too. Thanks!! :))

AskWoody LoungerThanks for your help – will try Ubuntu as it’s a S African and “homegrown” – by the way, have ditched the Kaspersky Internet Security programs on all our computers as the problem came back again this morning and I couldn’t be bothered to hassle with it again – too much work to do and I cannot handle a slow computer again! Thanks to everyone again!

AskWoody LoungerThanks for your comments. Yes, rapport was the program and it has been uninstalled – much to my bank’s ire.
I decided to d/l Ravremover and uninstall Kaspersky, then I did a check disc and re-installed the latest version of Kaspersky. Thus far, all is going well. I shall let the license period expire, then choose another antivirus program as this problem seems to keep coming back and it really gets me down to battle with a sluggish computer – for up to 2 hours at a time. In my mind, it’s simply not worth it.

Patch reliability is unclear, but widespread attacks make patching prudent. Go ahead and patch, but watch out for potential problems. |
