Generally when copying to PowerPoint, I copy a picture. You can add the camera icon to the toolbar or hold the key while left mouse clicking on “Edit”.

Also, are you sure the data which was cut off was within the right most column boundries. Text will flow into the next cell area, if the next cell is empty. Try widening the right most cell prior to the copy/paste.

Actually I would like Excel to play well with version managing applications.

    • in reply to: UNC Paths (Excel 97) #659575

Thanks. The routine gave me servernamesharename or a fullUNC path. Added one function and a wrapper to get UNC path sans filename. Thanks. It was easy enough.

      Thanks
The controls are what I was really looking for – And they have it – this stencil –>> http://www.visimation.com/visio-manufactur…sp?StencilID=11%5B/url%5D

    • in reply to: Macros and browsers (XP sr1, i.e.6) #649556

Yes, it is true, the Open in Browser box is checked. Are you saying then, the only way I can get this to work is to not allow the open in browser?

I have a couple of Walkenbach’s books, including Power programing with Excel. I have M$ IE resource kit, and Internet Explorer 5 Developer Guide from White press, but I don’t see the issue of the difference between opening Excel inside a container and opening alone addressed. I do remember having see it addressed somewhere, but my mental index seems to be flawed. I will do some more searching.

      Thanks.

      That is it! Thanks.

    • in reply to: paste unformatted macro (2000 9.0.2720) #648975

“Tools, Macro, Macros” Select the Macro, Select Options (lower Right). Delete the key identifer.
      I hope this helps

    • in reply to: Close without saving (97sr2, XP sp1) #648938

Thanks. I knew that, but it is not what I was looking for! Releasing resources will go on my list of “things to check”, at least until next time I forget 🙂

      Thanks again.

    • in reply to: Close without saving (97sr2, XP sp1) #648921

I tried that too. I removed the “Always create backup” option as well.
If I close from the file menu, every thing works. If I no not move the cursor on the “FieldInfo” sheet, everything, including the close macro works. If I attempt to close using the macro, After I have moved the cursor on the “FieldInfo” sheet, I crash. Even If I save the workbook from the file menu first.

      It is attached this time.

    • in reply to: Excel crashes when copying sheet (97 sp2) #629810

Thanks. However, renaming the class does not work. By the time the name length limit is reached, Excel crashes even when I rename the last class. [What you are calling it a code name I call a class. IMHO it is a class. Perhaps not a true class as Java would provide, but I can create properties and refer to the properties by the class name).

The issue here is the end users. They come to me when it crashes. I could tell them, “I have put dynamite under your desk. Each time you copy a worksheet, follow these renaming steps. If you do not, when Excel crashes, the dynamite will blow up” However, the little remaining little parts of them will still come to my desk on that fateful day crying “My report is due. I don’t care how important your work is, please drop it and bail my butt out!” Since the end user is generally a manager higher than I, I comply.

I was hoping someone could pulled a rabbit out of a hat and provide a final solution. Alas, I will live with it and continue my love/hate relationship with Microsoft.

      Thanks.

    • in reply to: Excel – Copy Sheets Problem (Excel 2000 SP2) #613807

      Here it is!

Open a new workbook. Go to View, Report Manager. Add a Report. Copy the Sheet. In my case, I used the name test and I received the message A formula or sheet contains the name wrn.Test.

The solution, use the Delete command button in the report manager.

Have you hit and selected the “Paste List” command button on the lower right. If so, does the name appear in the list?

I played with v4 macros a bit, and I did not see where there names behaved any differently than any other range name.

    • in reply to: Return codes (VB 6) #612078

I do not know why. I assume it because it brings the process to a dead halt, unlike posting a WM_CLOSE message to a window.

      Elightenment will be appreciated.

    • in reply to: Timestamp on folders #612076

I guess the other option would be to change the time on the system for each directory I want to duplicate.

What is interesting is Robocopy (Ships with NT Resource kit) will keep the original directory date, sometimes. It is not consistant.

    • in reply to: Timestamp on folders #612062

Thanks. If I type Touch, with no params, the help I get is simply [-cf] file …. However /t does work. However, I need to update folder times and now I find touch does not work on folders. Backup and Restore does not work on the folders either. I have not tried the API call SetFileTime, but I suspect it also will not work.

I remember many years ago, when disk volumes were small, using Norton’s Utilities to edit the FAT table and if my memory is any good, the times were able to be edited. In this case however, editing one by one is not a choice, since we are moving large volumes of data from one area to another.
