      Well, duh!!!!!! I knew that!!!!!
I guess I had a quick brain lapse! Thanks again!

Hello again. Sorry to keep dredging, but…..
I followed your steps exactly and am getting a compile error message: Method or data member not found. I inserted the code on the BeforeUpdate event of the form and now I can’t figure out why it’s not working. I don’t need to create an audit trail. I just need a record of the most recent person who changed the data on the form and when. Did I miss something?

Charlotte, you ROCK!!!!! (No offense, Hans! I couldn’t have gotten to this point without your steps guiding me there.) For the benefit of other users that may have the same problem:

When you split a database, even though the system.mdw remains the same, you need to access the backend dataset as ADMIN. You will find that the admin has no access to the tables. Thus, no query access. Even though you as the user has access, if the admin doesn’t, you “ain’t” gettin’ in. So, re-setup your permissions as Charlotte suggested and you’ll be all set.

THANKS A BUNCH! YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!!!

No luck. Joined the default and still can’t get to the tables.

    • in reply to: Split Database (Access 97) #695398

Okay, I think I’ve found something. I tried to create a new database, totally unrelated to my original. I have a brand-new table and found the same problem. It’s got to be the workgroup setup. But, when I went to review the permission, there was nothing unusal. Am I missing something?

    • in reply to: Split Database (Access 97) #695384

No, it’s been secured for months. I changed everyone’s password when I split it, though. Everyone is in there working and updating with no problems. Even some of the reports that I have written before I did the split work fine. It’s only when I try to create a new one that I get the problem.

    • in reply to: Split Database (Access 97) #695379

I’ve tried the copy and the importing suggestion. No luck. I’m still getting the “cannot access” error.

    • in reply to: Split Database (Access 97) #694782

Okay, it only took a few hours, but I finally got it all cleared up. No one is in the database, no records are locked, nothing! The problem with Query is still happening. Where to now?

      thanks

    • in reply to: Split Database (Access 97) #694722

I think so. I trace it back to a user that I just had shut down their entire system. No luck. I can’t get by the files.

    • in reply to: Split Database (Access 97) #694690

I just found an error that states I have the database open exclusively. Strange. I have it setup for shared. All users are in right now and working. What did I do?

I also just kicked all users out to clear the lock. It still is showing the files in use with no one in. What do I do with this?

    • in reply to: Split Database (Access 97) #694687

I am trying to go directly to the dataset. I am still getting a “cannot access” message. I am trying all 3 data source definitions:MS Access 97 Database*
      MS Access Database (not sharable)
      MS Access Database*

    • in reply to: User Update Monitoring (Access 97) #694509

      Thank works GREAT!!!! Thanks, Hans!!!!

Now, of course to push a little further…..Can I take the same logic and create another scenario which would record the user and date/time, if someone modifies the record?

    • in reply to: User Update Monitoring (Access 97) #694459

All of my data is updated through forms. I use a switchboard that pops up at startup and only forms from there. How would I track it? Do I create a hidden expression on the form that populates the table’s field with user and date/time?

I know, I know……Believe me, I know there are better ways to do a lot of what I’m doing. The problem is when you learn from books and trial and error, you do thing the hard way, ALOT! One of these days, I will actually go to Access and SQL classes and learn this stuff. Until then, I just try to keep this dinosaur I created from dying!

      Thanks for the help Hans!

    • in reply to: Report List with No Blank Cells (Excel 97) #687222

Thanks for the clarification. I just wrote a quick macro and added to a button on the report. The user can manage to click ONE more thing, I think! But I will keep your array formula handy.

      thanks again

Hey, hey now…..we can’t do things the smart way! Come on, if it’s not something that would go around in circles and waste time, why do it??????

So I’m trying to get a subtract join setup and that won’t work either! I just can’t win on this thing!!!!!
