    • in reply to: Question about pagefile.sys #1496496

I used to build Windows servers for a living and never relocated a page file. The only time servers need to play with page files is when your TS box is heavily loaded, but you should have taken that into account when you bought the memory for your server.

      cheers, Paul

If 2k3 then 32 vs 64 versions as well
If TSE then its about each footprint to connection = X to memory requirements, we do that stuff all the time, if 32 then you will fall into the workgroup trap and UPTO 10 connection befoer possible error 72 thus 64 solves this of cause

Microsoft do recommend the hack to page on different drive to improve performance. Not totally convinced on all of this all the time. Yes page to RAID 0 and partition always

2K8r2 and upwards things are easier, and still we put page to A.N.Other HDD

As I have said before in post, all depends on what you are trying to do and under what guidlines

    • in reply to: Question about pagefile.sys #1496460

For what its worth, if its a new desktop with 1 HDD or if you lucky 2 I would not over worry unless you are tight for a bit space in the 1st drive. i do not think you notice much, thats said the second drive I would assign something half big as use the rest for the drive for archives, old stuff or what ever so not to waste the possible space, maybe go MyDoc over there to save being on the main boot drive / same goes for downloads etc .. depends what you want to do really

if its on fileserver I would deffo have page separate and you will notice, even if RAID 5 with Raid 0 on the pace and split for page and back up partitions etc

Again depends what you looking to do

I recently had A brother DCP-585cw Lasted for about 2-3 years and needed replacing and I hardly do any Printing. But I got a Dell laser printer that was about £125 on ebuyer and prints in color. but the compatible toner cartridges is about £20 a set.

That is a great deal in the UK more so as Dells never cheap compounded laZer and colour – good stuff

      >> walmart.com. is Asda in the UK

    • in reply to: Fatal error #1496163

It would be better to attach all the code with the failing line shown as the error might be caused by a problem in a previous statement.

      Yeah good point

Also do you just have one module code or are there lots of bit in the workbook, and class codes, and think called from private.xls etc etc theres a few bits to check

Not sure teh rules here can you post the work book up here (ONLY IF THERE IS GENERIC DATA THAT CAN BE SAFE IN PUBLIC DOMAIN AND CARRYS NO PRIVATE DATA OF ANY SORT TO YOU ? WORK OR ANYONE ELSE – and all responsibility is to the poster for doing so)

    • in reply to: Advisable or not to shut down routers? #1496162

I turn my router off whenever it is not in use, even during the day but always overnight. For two reasons, (a) to save power, and (b) for security. I have security wound up, and I doubt if anyone could break in, but I take the view that if it is turned off, no one can get in. I have not suffered any degradation in performance, just have to wait a minute or so while it reboots.

      – security, if configured correctly you should be fine, most are of little interest to the hackers / outside world. You could get zapped if you the inside user is clicking bad stuff on the WWW of cause, bar that should be OK. You could install a separate firewall box to give more protection and that is not a BIG issue or cost to do as you only really need something simple / small for home, and that will stop MOST should they try

Yes the reboot time you have mentioned

Cost is very low really to run when not in use, bit like if you have a switch or hardware firewall in place, they are pence to run really and its a lot of fluffing to power on off unless all in one place etc etc

Generally true but not in all cases. I can go more than a month without using my Canon Pixma 892 and I have had no issues even with using third party ink. I’ve had for a couple of years now and only use it occasionally since I use a laser as my main printer.

      Jerry

You do what I do, laser for all mono prints and test prints re colour

Yes my advice is a little OTT but its more reminders, ink must be used and does cleaning cycles and print head cleans that is wasting more ink than you print. Also 3rd party ink in not great stuff as a rule, ie Epson durabrite is not really obtainable as 3rd party, and yes it now true modern cheaper inks are made from good based compounds and produce quality inks and produce extremely good results when you look at costs

If you look at Epson beast the WP-4595 3-in-1 its a quality PCL6 unit and not GDI and prints awesome and inks are a bomb, but 3rd parts work just fine for all but the top top photo prints and then the paper can also fall into the equation

Additionally Epson’s B-510 monster ‘stinky’ is no go for 3rd party inks, unless someone can tell me different

Worth looking up these two units

On on on here no need to, reboot as and only if required. Should be fine

    • in reply to: 2nd HD logical drive has 7.84 mb unallocated space #1496074

In English its painful and annoying ‘but’ leave be and ignore it. It’s a hard drive thing and just has to be
The tech bit has all been said above, I would not suggest playing around with it thou

    • in reply to: Cheap printer/scanner/copier #1496069

This is totally correct, always check first the costs. Remember if it a ‘stinky’ then the quality drops re low usage and print head cleans just waste ink.

Then they dry up on you so it is one for the bin. Ink jets do need to be used regular, that is to say a page or two a week min in all colours, not just a bit of text

    • in reply to: Fatal error #1496067

Always best is to step through the code rather than just run it, see where the code bombs and your know as the lone code will high light yellow are you go

Post back the code line that fails
