      hello Ian

There is also such a thing as Used Bookstores. Where you can even trade in books you have finished to help puchase books you want. Makes the price very reasonable and you have a hard copy you can keep as long as you want or trade in against the next one. Look for junky out of the way places they are more apt to have out of print items.

      hello Kathie

      In addition to MerC’s try

      Scotterbot

His site has the “tree” and “send to” things as well as lots of other interesting things. Ranks right up there with Merc’s site. Both great fun sites.

hello It has been a while since I upgraded and I don’t remember which acutal version numbers I was using but I had to go back to the old Works and save all my old files from W3.?(old version) to W2.?(older version). It warned that I would lose some formatting. Then load the W2.older version into the new program and save again as the newer version. And it was necessary to do some reformat to get the fonts, colors, etc back again. As I remember all the formulas and links came through OK but not the frills.

Seems like the new Works would read old files saved as .wk1 or .wk2 but not as .wks. I may be misremembering the actual extensions. Anyway it is an avenue to explore. GoodLuck.

hello When I upgraded my monitor some time ago the color started bleeding to the right corner. My telepone was too close exclamation Moved the phone — end of problem. It may not be related to your situation but it is one of those computer trivias that boggles my mind so I just had to mention it.

      bravo bow Ricky

I am so nuts blush frown

I assumed (and you know what that does) because I could leave the field blank it was set for zero length strings. I went to the table just to check on the setting exclamation Problem solved. Thank you so much.

BTW both solutions by Charlotte and Legare as well as my original work now.

      Tx Legare

I tried using the minus but I hadn’t figured out the “Len” bit and it told me it didn’t recognize my command. I spent some time looking at the “Len” thing this morning while Norton was doing its update. It looked promising but I thought I would have to do a couple more lines to identify the “Len”. Will try your suggestion today.

Also just ran across something called “Trim”. It appears to only remove blanks but will experiment with it today also.

That one I have under control. The field works fine if I actually key in the deletion even during the Debug sequence. But you are right sometimes it is the obvious things we miss.

First of all my book(s) say it must have the third argument. I tried leaving it blank but I think I left the comma in. It didn’t like that. I will try it without the comma today.

      Dummies!

The “…for Dummies” books are great, basic but include side bars with advanced and more technical info and humorous.

Actually inspite of owning a bookstore I don’t recommend purchasing the beginner’s computer books. Use your Public Library. Now when you get ready to set up your own Web Page and use HTML you will probably need to purchase.

      Tx Leif

It got even more interesting. Norton claims the recycle bin is empty it can’t find the files at all. And when I told MS tools to clean out the Recycle folder it tried to connect to the internet. I was tempted to tell it to go ahead and see if it would attempt to delete the whole internet. rofl

I appreciate the link and will give it a look.

OK KT obviously I haven’t used all of the MS help files. As big as they are they have to have one or two that work. I am a Quicken abuser so I never delved into MSMoney. But recently two programs, one was Frontpage Express and the other Outlook, really irritated me. FPE has 4 help pages and they all say FPE does this great but not how to use it to do it. I am just working up my ambition to attempt some html to make a web page and am hoping to find a decent help file on it.

Please don’t send me to MS on line. That is another one that is beyond my capabilities to comprehend. I just wait for someone to post a link on something I am interested in and then go see what they recommended. Can’t make up my mind if that means I am too smart to reinvent the wheel or too lazy to do my own research.

But I am learning more everyday

hello Ade I hate to be frivolous on a serious board but you have to be hallucinating. You will never find the program you think you are looking for because MS doesn’t know how to write a good help file so this program can’t really exist. I think all MS help files are written by their Ad men.

Seriously I really would like to see this help file so I will be watching here. Be sure to let us know when you do run it down.

    • in reply to: What plays sound on the net #554003

Tx Ian and David. If I had a dedicated phone line I might even increase the business usage. Guess I could keep a log and only claim the actual percentage used for business,

So new question for software does any one (Hey wake up Merc) have a program which keeps a log of log on time?

My response on the IRS is not appropriate for this board.

    • in reply to: What plays sound on the net #553980

Tx Merc It figures. Don’t think I can justify the expense of a broadband connection since my business use is only about a third of the connection time. Some how I don’t think the IRS will allow me to call DeStressing a business expense. Oh well gives me something to work toward.
