      savnam = (“txtimgno”)
      newsavnam = (“txtsname” & “_” & “txtfnam” & “_” & “txtimgno”)

      FileCopy “H:DocTestV1[savnam].jpg”, “H:DocTestV1[newsavnam].jpg”

      Thanks for the prompt feedback.

Have you tried saving the reliability history (link at the bottom left of the reliability monitor. That creates an XML file you could then process for a different view.

I’m guessing that you might be referring to Win 7. I’m still stuck on Vista, and I certain;y can’t see a save link on my set up. I can’t see any settings to change either. Am I missing something?

Bit more Googling brought me a file called Unlocker

This did the trick with the individual files, and then I could remove the directory.

Thanks for the help, Much appreciated as usual, can’t explain how much it helps to talk it through

      Thanks

That at least removes one issue.

Now all I want is to remove that folder!

In answer to your question, NO, I’m not sure it didn’t become THE BOOT disk! But I don’t think it did!

However, as I’ve no idea how this happened, so I can’t say for certain that some part of Windows is not looking to E:Boot.

I did a Registry search for E:Boot and got no results tho. I also ran Autoruns, and it has no entries pointing at E:Boot. (Just as an aside, there were no entries in registry or Autoruns for C:Boot either so I’m not sure if it is an “active” directory, or a store for files used in the install.)

I’ve attached a copy of disk management set-up which seems to suggest its OK, together with an image of the location that i’m stuck with.

Sorry for not including this info.

It is marked as read-only & hidden, but I cannot change the attributes. I’m the only named user and therefore administrator as well!

In the registry the settings in the HKLM section are machine level (i.e. apply to all users). The settings in HKCU apply to the current logged on user.

      Joe

Thanks for this added clarification. but i’m a bit puzzled why you added it. Have I misunderstood an earlier stage in the process?

    • in reply to: Disable software processes question #1177968

This will add the HKCU entries to the registry, but it won’t delete the HKLM entries, so you will still have to do some manual registry edits.

THanks Stuart. I will need to remember that. I had not thought about that bit of it. I copied the instructions and the reg file into OneNote to keep, but forgot all about removing the entries in HKLM.

      Once again, thanks

    • in reply to: Disable software processes question #1177941

Just tried the Registry edit, and it seems to work perfectly

I don’t pretend to understand the registry at all, but I have a very basic and (very dangerous) knowledge of editing it.

So I exported the relevant entries, changed the paths to HKCU and saved it as a .reg file so I can re-apply it after updates.

      Great help guys.

Thanks a million. I’d never have got this on my own.

      Hi

Thanks for both suggestions. I must admit I like the sound of the registry edit better. That seems an easy one to organise.

      I’ll try it now.

      System restore point first however

      Thanks

The new firewall in Vista and Windows 7 on boot up will kick in as one of the first services, then, when a third party firewall starts, a GOOD firewall will be able to turn the Windows firewall off. This is to provide firewall protection during the boot process and protect the system during this time.

I think when a third party firewall is disabled, then there is this same small part of the Windows firewall that protects the system during boot, is turned back on but can not report that it is on, because it is NOT the full firewall.

Yes it looks as if there muist still be a remnanat running.

Yes, the Vista Firewall will kick in, one shall have a firewall in place.

Interesting. I never thought of that. I had in fact checked yesterday, and according to the Windows Security Center, Windows Firewall was not running.

So I checked this morning after your two suggetsions and it still says not running after I disable the ZoneLabs firewall.

Next step therefore was to re-enable Zonelabs, and it worked first time.

So there’s an interesting phenomena. I can’t access a network disk cos of permissions, so enable the firewall and I can. AH well another one to file away. So often, we (or I anyway) suspect the firewall is to blame, for this type of problem, but in this case ZoneLabs was working perfectly.

So thanks for the help AGAIN, Guys.

Once again you come to my rescue. Much appreciated. There are some subjects I can usually work out on my own, but I HATE networks!!!!!!!!!!!

Before worrying about whether you can browse network drives, can you first please check that a ping works correctly in each direction.

      No it does not

I can ping by computer name and ip address from vista desktop to xp laptop, but the other way times out

    • in reply to: Vista cannot see XP laptop #1174072

Also with ZoneAlarm add all of the IP addresses in the” Zones” area of “Firewall” you can add them separately or as a range, just click the right option when clicking on the “Add” button. Make sure that you hit the apply and entering the all of the needed IP addresses.

Yes I had set a range up
