    • in reply to: Is there a Quicken substitute? #1214984

I used GnuCash for a couple years (after having used MS Money). When I was presented with an offer for 1/2-price Quicken 2010, I took it – and am using it. But, so far, I don’t like it any more than GnuCash. (Both have plusses and minuses.) So, I should have saved my money and stayed with GnuCash. The biggest advantage – for me, with Quicken is the abillity to download data from all my bank, credit card and retirement accounts. The biggest advantage for GnuCash for me was the ability to easily search for a particular account entry.

I am surprised one of your disappointments regarding Quicken was the ability to easily search for a particular entry. This is one of Quicken’s strong points, as in the top right-hand corner of any Quicken screen is the universal search box and you can type in any aspect of the transaction. For example, you need to find all entries for 39.99. Just type that into the search dialog and all entries — checks, credit cards, investment transactions — will be presented. Or type in any part of the Payee name or memo field and Quicken will find it.

Yes, and I believe that was successful. What is confusing here is that these problems seem to have started when I upgraded to Adobe professional version 7.

I have Outlook 2003. As far as mail format is concerned, it shows HTML.

    • in reply to: No attachment – Winmail.dat instead (OL 2000) #1038347

This is driving me nuts. A user (on AOL) keeps reporting that my message shows a winmail.dat file (the attachment was supposed to be PDF). The user’s address profile shows to send in ‘let Outlook decide…’. But the user still gets winmail. My Outlook msg format shows HTML.

      Is there another solution?

    • in reply to: Embed Signature (Office 2003 SP2) #1007694

Oops – just got back to this message. Thanks for your post. I was hoping there was some smart way to embed a signature a la Adobe Acrobat (as part of the stationary – not simply a .bmp , ,jpg or .gif file) such that it could not be electronically copied. I know that seems to be a leap of faith as my guess is anything can be copied and cleaned up to look like the real thing. Having the ability to produce a stationary with a build in (hand written) signature would be a good first step.

      Hans,

Many thanks. This worked. I wonder why word doesn’t provide a similar process so the user does not have to revert to VB code.

Thanks – now I get it. I saw that VPN entry there but I did not think to enable of the advanced settings.

It is just Windows firewall. As such I don’t see within Windows firewall where you can add a connection as trusted or safe. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

    • in reply to: Outlook send (2003 SP2) #982709

No, actually this is where the failure occurs. If I try to do that, the message will sit there and will not send even if I click send/receive on the toolbar. The only way to get the message to send is to move it out of the outbox into another folder, open it up, click on send, and then it will go back into the outbox and Outlook will send it properly.

    • in reply to: Outlook send (2003 SP2) #982673

      >To me, it seems like this is by design – as the disabling of the Send status allows multiple edits to be done before the message is refinalised.

Do you mean that Microsoft specifically designed it such that the user has to remove the message from the outbox to some other folder, open up a message in order to click send? That seems awfully strange to me.

    • in reply to: Detect & repair error/windows installer (2003 SP2) #982599

I believe, although I’m not certain of this, that you may need the original installation CD to reinstall Microsoft Office. You may want to wait for some other responses from the true experts on this forum regarding this before you go down that path. Doing so will not eliminate any documents or files, but it will change your office settings back to default.

I believe this means that the original cab files created during the installation of Office 2003 are no longer available.. I recently did a detect & repair on my office 2003 installation and it worked fine. It did not even ask for the original installation CD because I never deleted the office 2003 setup files.

      Thanks Tony.

    • in reply to: Smart Tags Missing (XL2003 ) #960683

Thanks Hans. After reading more posts in Google Groups, it appears that the best bet is to reinstall Office 2003 to get smart tags to work. There also appears to be some link to SP1 as the culprit, but this is an assumption on my part.

Yes – but unfortunately I’m not sure I could list the installs I have made. Were these posts in the Excel forum?
