Thanks for posting this, macropod. Nice job. This should be very useful for anyone who needs to do date calculations in a document.

The next thing I would try would be to load some other addin and see whether it behaves any better.

Do you have any other addins installed? If so, quit Word and remove them, then restart Word with no addins, not even HFD. Then choose Tools|TemplatesAndAddins and click Add and then navigate to HFD.dot and select it and click OK. If you still get error messages, try downloading a fresh copy of the addin.

Can you provide a step-by-step description of what’s happening? Don’t leave out any steps.

    • in reply to: Hidden File Detector (Word 2002/SP-2) #622259

      1. Start Windows Explorer
      2. Choose Tools|Folder Options
      3. Choose the View tab
      4. Choose Show Hidden Files and Folders
      5. Click OK.

Yes, that’s true. To protect other customizations, pull down the Tools menu while the Customize dialog box is open and drag the Field Sniffer command off the menu.

    • in reply to: Hidden File Detector (Word 2002/SP-2) #622154

To get rid of the Field Sniffer command on the Tools menu, proceed as
      follows:

      1. Choose Tools|Customize.
      2. Click on the Toolbars tab.
      3. Scroll down and select Menu Bar.
      4. Click Reset and then click Close.

To finish installing Hidden File Detector, search your hard drive for a file called HiddenFileDetector_Addin.dot and double-click it in Windows Explorer to open it in Word, then follow the instructions listed there.

    • in reply to: Where is Hidden File Detector? (0) #621747

Yes, simply quit Word, move HiddenFileDetectorAddin.dot to Word’s startup folder, then restart Word.

When you “Go to” a hidden file, HFD automatically turns on the field code responsible for hiding the file (assuming a field code is involved). To turn off the field code and view the “results,” which should appear at the same location as the field code, press Shift+F9. Or press Alt+F9 to toggle field codes on or off throughout the entire document.

    • in reply to: Field Sniffer Trashes Spell Checker! (Word 2000 SR1) #620381

I’m unable to duplicate this problem. None of the code in HFD should affect Word’s spell checking function. When conducting future tests, you may want to go to Tools|TemplatesAndAddins and simply remove the checkmark next to HiddenFileDetector, rather than going to Add/Remove Programs. This will unload HFD temporarily. HFD will reload itself automatically the next time you start Word or you can reload it sooner by going back to Tools|TemplatesAndAddins and replacing the checkmark.

If any other addins are listed under Tools|TemplatesAndAddins, you might want to remove the checkmarks next to those addins as well, to see if this has any effect.
