      Hi Budman,

If I understand your needs correctly, this is fairly easy to achieve in Outlook 2002.

Select “File – New – Folder” and type in the name for your new contact list in the “Name” field of the presented dialogue box.

From the “Folder Contains” drop down list, select “Contact Items”.

In the “Select where to place the folder” box, select your mailbox name (or a sub-folder of it if you do not want it as a top level folder).

      Press the OK button.

In your folder list, right click on the newly created Contacts folder and select “Properties”, then select the “Outlook Address Book” tab.

Ensure the “Show this folder as an email address book” checkbox is selected.

This should now be set up to allow you to use the new folder to find addresses as per normal with Outlook.

      Hope this helps you.

      Cheers,

Glad you found a solution Elcid. Unfortunately it is not a free solution, but at least Microsoft have finally put that functionality into Outlook 2002.

      Cheers cheers

Sorry about that Becky. I have been working with 2002 for so long now that I had completely forgotten what rules were available in previous versions. Although it looks like Elcid has found a solution to his problem anyway.

      Cheers

      Geoff,

      Credit where credit is due

I did indeed forget that you had contributed to this particular solution. Indeed, you are even credited at the top of the article as one of the contributors. From memory, it was your modifications to it that eventually helped me overcome the problems that I was having

However, in my previous posting, I was simply thanking Charles for pointing us in the right direction with his “New on the Word MVP FAQ Page” posting, and that thanks still stands.

I know only too well that the combined knowledge of the many members of the Lounge make this an invaluable resource for those of us who (frequently) get stumped when working with Office programs. I would personally thank each and every one of them, but there are just too many who’s ideas I have “borrowed” to help me out of a jam.

For Ken though, my first post still stands. The previous thread and the article at the MVP site will answer his questions on spell checking form fields.

Thanks for the reminder Geoff and thanks to all Loungers for your ideas.

      Cheers

      Hi Ken,

I went through the same problems with spell checking in protected forms in early September (see the Spell Checking Form Fields thread for further information).

Fortunately, Charles Kenyon provides Loungers with a wonderful service with his service. This particular one contains a link titled How to enable the spellchecker in a protected document.

This saved me a lot of anguish back in September, and I am sure that it will provide you with all the information you need to get yourself going with this “feature”.

      Onya Charles cheers

      Cheers,

You should be able to easily set up a rule to print each message on arrival.

Open your Rules Wizard (on your Tools menu) and create a new rule which checks email as it arrives. Have Outlook apply the rule to all messages (or limit it according to the choices presented). On the next screen, select “Print it” to have all messages print when received.

This works on Outlook 2002 and I am reasonably sure that you should be able to create the same rule within 97.

      Hope this helps.

      Thanks for the reply Leif.

I did have a look at this one when I was searching the KB, but it doesn’t apply I am afraid.

They have done a complete upgrade straight from Office 97 to Office XP and completely by-passed Office 2000. There are definitely no Office 2000 programs on the system as the company did not purchase this version.

I also did a search and could only see the one copy of Envelope.dll on the PC. This is the only PC that this is happening on (of the dozen or so they have rolled out so far), so that makes it all the more frustrating.

Still looking for an answer myself and hoping someone from the Lounge may have come across something similar.

      Cheers,

    • in reply to: Can’t select with mouse inside Word (Word XP) #1789302

I opened the document up in Word 2002 (XP) and had no problems at all completing any of the normal cut and paste and selection tasks that Phil went through with Word 2000.

It appears to be quite a normal Word document, with no restrictions on selections showing anywhere. It doesn’t contain any form fields and is not locked in any way that I can see. Everything I try seems to be drawing a blank .

Sorry I can’t shed any light on the mystery for you. shrug

I am not sure about any VBS or add-in solutions to this, but you could try using the right mouse button to click and drag the email to the task folder.

This will provide you with a list of options including “copy as task with text or shortcut or attachment” or “move as task with attachment”. The move option is probably your best bet as it will remove the email from the inbox.

I am sure some of the VB gurus at the Lounge will be able to provide you with some script which will achieve the same result automatically.

      Hope this helps.

      Hi angiew,

I have Word 2002 loaded here at the office and have just tried to duplicate the problem you described, but I am afraid it all worked fine for me. I placed the /stn string in the Autotext and it was replaced time after time with no problems experienced.

Sorry I couldn’t help you any more with this one. shrug

    • in reply to: Printing Multiple Copies and Win2000 #547579

      Dave,

In my case the printer is connected to a workstation and shared to the rest of the network. I don’t think that different drivers on machines is the problem as we even had problems printing from the workstation that the printer was connected to.
      scratch

We look after all of our own IT problems, so I don’t think I am ready to blame the IT staff just yet (but I think that is probably the next step doh ).

      Cheers,

    • in reply to: Printing Multiple Copies and Win2000 #547564

      Hi Dave,

Like Melanie, our problem printer is a Hewlett Packard as well, but ours is a HP LaserJet 4Si.
Our work area is a domain network run on Windows 2000 servers and the PC that the printer was connected to was running Windows 2000 as well. We had people using Win98 and Win2000 PC’s who were having the same problems when sending work to this printer. We have now moved the printer to another PC running Win2000, but some of the staff are still reporting the same problems occurring (I haven’t done any printing of manuals for a while, so I haven’t noticed it myself).

We have also downloaded the latest drivers from HP and so far no change.

      Cheers,

    • in reply to: filtering during export (ol2k) #547562

Sorry, I can’t recall ever seeing a filter button on any version of Outlook that I have used when exporting any type of data. shrug

What may be a workable solution for you is to filter the contacts before you try to export them. Create a filter within your contacts folder which will give you just the contacts you are after, then create a new Contacts folder and copy those contacts to it. Use the new contacts folder when you do the export.

Not exactly what you are after sigh, but the best I can think of to solve your problem. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me knows of a better way, or knows if there should be a filter button somewhere in the export process question

      Hope this helps.

      Yeah, I know!!

Sometimes using Outlook can be just like… brickwall

      Good luck.

Sorry Mike blush, I have been carried away with other things and did not notice your reply earlier.

I did not consider the “Have replies sent to” option before, but I guess anything is worth a try. I will give it a go over the next couple of days and let you know if I have any success with it.

      Cheers cheers
