      Thanks for the ideas Joe.

      Another related question:
What causes Win7 to say I spelt the networked PC (one of the other ones on the network) wrong when I haven’t changed anything? Sometimes it says this from my own PC. e.g. Windows Explorer/Network icon/click one of the names in the list

Didn’t have all these issues with XP Pro. 🙁

      No, it’s already shared.

      Let’s start over. Win7 64bit

Computers are networked here (3 of them if that makes a difference).

One of the other computer users puts something in my Users/Public folder.

I have to go into there to pick it up. I use, Windows Explorer/click Network icon/MyPCName/Users/Public to get to it.

The address bar starts going green and progressing (sort of, it stalls). Wait and wait then it say Not responding and doesn’t show the contents of the Public folder.

i.e. Windows Explorer craps out. You have to close/restart program to get out. Neither of which fix the problem if you try again.

Seemed like less work to click Network/MyPCName/etc.

Going via c:etc I have to scroll down to get to Users.

Still would like to know why it craps out.

Sometimes it even does it going to a regular folder on the PC (not shared).

I am trying to get to my own share on my own computer, not connect to another computer on the network.

It is very temperamental as to whether it will work or not. Usually won’t work when I’m in a hurry!

Look in the Account properties. There is a checkbox you need to uncheck it to stop you sending and receiving for that email address. The account will not be deleted. It will just be dormant.

(Sorry, don’t have OE installed on this Win7 machine so I can’t tell you the exact tab the check box is on)

What do you think is wrong with it. It looks the same in IE8 here.

Found out she is using PSP 8 if that makes any difference??? Any bugs with that version?

Do you think I should ask in Graphics? instead of annoying you guys.

    • in reply to: Vista & Jasc Paintshop Pro #1189924

Regardless whether it fixes the current problem or not, you should have her uncheck the option “Hide extensions for known file types”. This is one of the very first things I do on my own systems and on all my client systems.

Ok, I’ll ask her to do this in the meantime. I have this switched off too.

Thank you both for your replies.

      unkamunka,
Where in the old version of PSP can you permanently change the extensions used. There doesn’t seem to be a spot in PSP Ultimate (what I have) to do this.

As a user of PaintShopPro 5 (1998), this hasn’t happened to me on Vista – or on Win7.

What you can use is a freeware renaming utility that can handle the renaming of extensions in bulk. As Windows is case-insensitive (unlike the webServer), this will have to be a two-step process: first renaming the file, say, .jpeg & then jpg……..

Personally, I use the renaming facility built into FreeCommander which lets you rename entire folders at a time. (FreeCommander is a cost-free Windows Explorer replacement.) You can do a Google search on renaming files and come up with various alternatives.

I too have never had that problem with Vista nor Windows 7. However, there is a very easy solution, at least one which will work for now until the actual reason why the extension is changed allegedly by MS Vista.

When she saves her image, simply use the “File/Save as” option. In the Save dialog box she can change or type in .jpg for the file name. That should “stick”.

      Pilgrim,
      I believe she tried this.

She replied once that it just added an extra extension. imagename.jpg.JPG

Ok, just thought of this idea:
Do you think if I get her to turn off “hide extensions Windows knows” that will help? At least with Pilgrim’s suggestion?
