    • in reply to: Increase duration of double arrow drag icon in win10 #2270474

Thank you very much for your suggestion.

I did download Resize Enable and rebooted. The utility did work on Win 10 1909 and it did allow the double arrow resize icon to remain at a window’s edge. My problem is when moving the drag line between two adjacent frames within the same window, the cursor changes to a double arrow, but is frustratingly brief in appearance. It appears for a very short time which is hard to center on the line and clicking the left mouse button to grab it. As an example, open a File Explorer window. In the window, there are 2 displays, the Navigation display and the File display. If I want to give more room to display one or the other within the same window, the double arrow cursor to do that is displayed only briefly. I am seeking a way to make it easier to grab and drag. I’d think this could be made an Accessibility issue for those with impaired fine motor control of their hands.

    • in reply to: Win 10 sfc says it has repaired errors, but, has it? #1566373

Thank you to all who took the time to read and answer my post.

I could not find either of install.esd nor install.wim on my hard drive. I have an HP Envy Phoenix desktop which came with Win10 Pro pre-installed. I guess they must have just used an imaged drive to initialize my drive.

I’ll try to find another way to backup my main drive.

      Thanks, again.

Open an elevated Command Prompt and type (without the quotes) “dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth” and Enter.

It will take some time to run; don’t interrupt it. That should restore any corrupted files. You can run sfc /scannow after it completes to comfirm.

I ran the command as directed. The result of the command was:

Hi, I just wanted to say that a good way to experience Linux without having to forgo Windows entirely, is to install Oracle’s virtual machine (VM) which operates as an entirely separate computing environment within Windows and then installing the distro of your choice. That would allow one to “play” with Linux, but, retain a Windows environment.

      ruirib,

Thanks for you swift reply. No, I don’t have any particular problems booting or running. I was just curious as to why MS had these tasks enabled with a new OS installation. Occasionally, I stumble on some facet of Win7 that I don’t really know about.

    • in reply to: Some ugliness installing an aftermarket SSD #1339319

Fred, I too bought a Crucial SSD and with their brain-dead transfer software and ran into the same problem as you did. After much re-partitioning, moving data, and more bad words, I got it to load. Funny thing is that it makes the computer boot faster, but, not by much. It also seems to require file system checking much too often like it dismounts dirty. I replaced the CMOS battery to eliminate that from consideration. I’ve updated the firmware once and still don’t see the zippiness I thought it should have. Maybe the choice of Crucial was a bad decision. 😡
