AskWoody LoungerOops! Forgot about that. I removed two .dot files from the startup folders, and now I can click on shortcuts and the documents open. However, now I don’t have the function that these startup templates loaded (Winfax and the hidden file detector add-in). How do I get those back (especially Winfax)?

AskWoody LoungerOK, after almost a year I’m coming back to this problem. I was temporarily able to get round it by keeping a copy of Word open all the time, but I’d like to nail it down. I looked at my macros and there is indeed an autoexec, but I have no idea what it is or how it got there. When I go to macros, the edit button is greyed out. When I click on run, nothing visible happens and when I click on ‘step into’ I get this ‘Project locked’ dialog box. If I go into the VB editor and click on ‘View code’, the code window is empty. I’m guessing that an unfriendly install program for a piece of software did this. Is there any way I can frind out what it is? I don’t really want to delete it until I know what it is.

AskWoody LoungerThanks. That worked. I didn’t get an email notification of either of these replies. That’s the first time that has happened. I checked my profile and there doesn’t seem to be anything there that would have changed this. Has the forum software changed?

AskWoody LoungerAre you using a separate workbook each semester or a separate worksheet in a single workbook? It sounds like the former, but you used the word woksheet in your post. Have you tried importing each file into separate worksheets in a single workbook. You could password protect that one file and then use the Excel search function to search every sheet in the workbook. At the start of each academic year you could import however many semesters you need to track into a new workbook and add new sheets for the upcoming semesters.

AskWoody LoungerBob,
Have you tried reversing it with your “unspoof” Registry edits? Did that work? I’m curious about the HKLMSoftware subkey “Wow6423Node”. That’s new, as I don’t have one currently. The “unspoof” edit leaves an entry there; what effect does that have?
You mentioned in a later post that you can’t click on 1 click tag panel or smilies. When I do that they open in new tabs; That’s handy as you can keep them open and just flip to the appropriate tab when you want to use one. They still work from a separate tab.

AskWoody LoungerOK, I’ll give it a try and report back.

AskWoody LoungerBob,
What exactly does this spoof do? Do you mean by spoof that IE7 will tell web sites that it is really IE6, but it won’t remove any of the IE7 features and functionality? Or does it change IE7 in other ways? If the former, that could be useful since some sites won’t load in IE7. The new Yahoo! won’t load in IE7.

AskWoody LoungerI found the option to show the ‘File’ menu. Click on ‘Tools|Toolbars’ and select ‘Classic menu’.

AskWoody LoungerOK, I took the plunge and am now using IE7. The first thing that strikes me and annoys me greatly is the absence of the ‘File’ menu. MS says you can see it by clicking on the ‘Alt’ key; they mean pressing the ‘Alt’ key. This is true, but the File menu disappears again as soon as you select an item. I haven’t yet figured a way to keep it there all the time, but I think MS should at least give you the option. I much prefer the way the ‘Favorites’ menu cascades under the ‘File’ menu than how it appears when you click on the gold star.

AskWoody LoungerI have not tried IE7 yet, but perhaps I should.
I use it everyday all day at work & home with very few problems.
What problems have you found?

AskWoody LoungerAha! I have Firefox. I should have thought of that. I will try it pronto.

AskWoody LoungerI know. I checked the MS Knowledge Base and that had lots of stuff about it. The service is basically for managing backup media. I stopped the service and I can still drag and drop to CDs! I don’t know what’s going on. I haven’t rebooted yet. I’ll watch and see what happens after the next boot.

AskWoody LoungerI found the problem! Somehow the Removable Storage Service was set to manual start and was stopped. I restarted it and changed the setting to automatic, and now I can drag and drop files onto CDs and DVDs again.

AskWoody LoungerYes. 43 GB free.

AskWoody LoungerYes, it is. As I said before, I can write to it with other apps, such as Roxio Easy Media Creator. I cannot drag and drop files onto it using Windows Explorer. I get the error message I showed in my first message in this thread.
