      Phil,

Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn’t help. TwekUI already had those settings in place when I ran it. I tried unchecking it but that didn’t help. I did not have this problem with Word 2000. It definitely is a Word 2002 problem. Has anyone else reported it?

Thanks for the help. I was talking about profiles. OL2002 migrated them but seemed also to create an account for each profile in each profile. I deleted the profiles and created a new one with multiple accounts, and it now seems to be OK, except that I cannot force a send and receive. Hitting F9 or clicking on ‘Send/Receive’ does nothing. The only way to send and receive is to wait for the automatic send/receive to take place or to close Outlook and re-open it. I’ve installed the service pack, and that does not help.

      > what happens if you disable the mappoint com addin?

What happens is that the old map icon reappears and the MapPoint one goes away! That was the solution. Thanks a lot!

In OL 2000 SR-1, click on the ‘Send/Receive’ button. The drop down list shows ‘Internet E-mail’ followed by the name of the current profile.

You’re not talking about the same scenario. If you just click on the ‘New’ button to send an email to Bob, it will behave the way you describe. But if you go to the Contacts folder, right-click on Bob’s record and select ‘New message to Contact’, in my installation it will behave the way I described.

Re the way you described, I have a different problem. When I right-click on ‘Bob’ when it has a wavy red underline, Outlook stops in the first folder in which it finds a match, offering all the matches in that folder only. If I have Bob in other folders, I’m SOL.

And, no, I don’t have any macros in Outlook.

No settings that I know of. I’m using a personal address book. Are you using a shared address book? That could be the difference.

Mine has the correct date. Edit the file ‘outlook.txt’ in ‘program filesmicrosoft officeoffice1033’.

    • You said in your first post that your clients have you send mail for them via their own e-mail account. I assumed that you had a profile for each client set up in Outlook, so that you Launched Outlook with the profile of the client you were sending and receiving email for. You can have different email servers and email addresses for each profile. So in your profiles you set the SMTP server to whatever your ISP requires, and the POP server to wherever your clients have their email.

To create a profile, go to Control Panel and click on the ‘Mail’ icon and select the ‘Show Profiles’ button. This will list your profiles and give you the opportunity to create new ones. Once you have selected or created the profile, click the properties button, select ‘Internet E-mail’ and click on the properties button for that. Click on the ‘General’ tab to set your email and reply addresses and on the ‘Servers’ tab to set your POP and SMTP servers.

That’s weird. When Outlook is installed in corporate or Workgroup mode, it puts all the email addresses in the ‘To:’ field and opens a dialog box telling you delete the ones you don’t want it sent to. I think I prefer that, since you have to actively select the address you want to use.

    • That is a common practice among ISPs. They check the IP address you’re sending from and if it’s not one of their’s they block the post. It helps to stop spamming.

But it doesn’t matter what SMTP server you use. You can send email from any server that will let you. What you need to do is edit the profiles that you use for each of your clients, changing the server to what your ISP requires. That will not affect your email address or the return address.
