      Thanks Barbara-Ann.

Thanks. That’s the file I was looking for.

      Jean-Pierre,

What you need to do is go to Tools|Options and click on the Send/Receive button. Select your account or the All Accounts group and make sure the ‘Include this group in send/receive (F9).’ is checked. Then click on the ‘Edit…’ button. This opens the ‘Send/Receive Settings’ window. Make sure both the ‘Send mail items’ and ‘Receive mail items’ boxes are checked. This will cause Outlook to send and receive mail when it starts.

Thanks Dave, but that doesn’t really help. It’s the same as typing ‘tasklist /?’ at a command prompt which I’ve already tried and which I discussed in my earlier post. What I want is something that does what tlist apparently did in Win2K.

    • in reply to: SVCHOST (Pro SP1) #662788

      Bob,

Tasklist.exe is installed with Win XP. That’s why it’s not in the support tools. But it doesn’t work the way you described tlist. It seems you have to specify the dll you want to check for and it will list all the processes using it. I haven’t fully explored all the parameters yet, but it certainly doesn’t seem to do what tlist did.

      Bob,

I had installed the support tools but there is no tlist amongst them and tlist is not mentioned in the release notes. What gives?

I tried scanpst but it found no problems with the file even though Outlook says it’s not a personal folders file.

I’m glad I didn’t hold my breath waiting for the reply to my post of over a year ago! But thanks anyway. I have installed Photdraw version 2. My question now is, should I install any of the Office 2000 service packs? Do these update Photodraw? It’s the only Office 2000 product I’m using, everything else is Office XP.

I don’t know know why the DSL modem would cause Outlook to crash, but I agree there doesn’t seem to be much else left. My DSL provider is SBC and of course I can’t reach their tech support (“Overloaded” is what the recording says).

    • in reply to: Compatibility (Pro SP-1) #648913

OK, I’ve done a few more things. I tried Outlook Express and that crashed almost immediately. I then disconnected my DSL connection and left it off for almost 18 hours. No crash. I left Outlook running yesterday and this morning it was still up and running. So it seems my DSL is the cause. But I didn’t use the software provided by my ISP. I couldn’t get it to work and when I called their tech support they said I don’t use it with Win XP. I set it up with XP’s built in ‘Add a new connection Wizard’.

Two USB2 devices: a scanner and a printer. A parallel port laser printer, which I’ve had for over 10 years.

      No PDA or fax software.

Did you mean ‘Hang up after a a manual send/receive’? That is unchecked.

I agree with you. As I said in my original post, I don’t think it’s an Outlook problem, as the same setup worked on my old Win 98 machine. What’s changed is that I now have DSL and Win XP Pro. That’s why I posted my message here instead of the Outlook forum.

The DSL setup was Win XP built in. I didn’t use the software provided by my ISP but used the Win XP new connection wizard. It works fine if I start it manually; it’s only when I try to start it from my Startup folder that I have a problem. That sounds like a Win XP issue to me.

As I said in my original post, I don’t think my problems are caused by Outlook. I had the same setup on my old Win 98 system and that worked fine. What’s changed is that I’m now running Win XP Pro and using DSL. That’s why I posted my question in this forum and not the Outlook forum.

Thanks, but I had already searched the KB and found that article. I was wondering if there was anything new for Office XP.

    • in reply to: Template shortcuts broken? (2002, SP2) #632212

Yes, it’s the autosave function (or saving it manually) that does it. Try it.

    • in reply to: Template shortcuts broken? (2002, SP2) #631611

That doesn’t work. If you save the message as an .msg file, whatever you compose will be saved and next time you open it to compose a new message, it will have all the text you added when you accessed it last time. A template has what you need for everything you want to include when you compose a message with it, and nothing else. Just like a Word template. Outlook templates are saved as .oft files.
