I have McAfee; there’s no script blocker that I can tell.

Now it’s back to the vendor tech support; thanks for the suggestions, everyone.

      Dave,

Where do I find a script blocker? The only place I can find references to scripts is in Internet Explorer.

      Dave,

The installer goes in the following order: (1) install desktop and sync software, (2) plug in hardware and press the sync button, (3) installer is supposed to recognize the hardware, (4) locate the drivers and install them. It’s doing one through three, and failing on four. I’m going to disable antivirus and try again.

      Thanks. Andy

    • in reply to: Corrupt Workbook (2000 9.0.4402 SR1) #859352

Thanks. Nothing’s worked. The users reverted to an earlier version and repeated the work. FWIW: (1) the workbook was being shared by multiple users and (2) no evidence yet that network drive capacity was a problem.

Prior corrupt files that I’ve had have resulted from a network blip — I’ve never had a workbook corrupted when it was on a local drive. Anyone else?

There were some results from OfficeRecovery.com, but the user wasn’t willing to spend the $$$ for a full copy.

The HP doesn’t have a similar option that I can find.

I’m way over my head here, but could a bad MBR have an effect on booting from the CD drive, or does MBR only work on hard drive? If I can get the computer to start up from a 3 1/2 in floppy, can I do anything from a: ? I’m ready to take it into the shop.

      Thanks, Mark & Chris,

I’m still tinkering with the thing. More later.

    • in reply to: Saving part of workbook (2000 SR-1) #673147

      Alexya1,
      1. Copy the worksheets: Select the three worksheets by holding down Shift and then clicking on each tab with the mouse cursor. With the mouse cursor still pointed at one of the tabs, right click – then To Book: “New workbook”, put a checkmark in the “make a copy” box.
      2. Convert formulas to values: In your new workbook, (1) on each sheet, select the range with contents (Shift+Control+End), then Edit, Paste Special – Values. This will remove links to your data worksheets.
      3. Delete External Names: If you’ve used named cells/ranges, these names may linked also. Select Insert Name Define and examine whether any names refer to external sources. You’ll need to delete all of them. I use a VBA routine to do this (sample attached). This routine will delete all names. You can also set it up to loop through all of the worksheets in the workbook.

      Hope this helps.

    • in reply to: Lookup Problem (Excel 2000) (9.0.4402 SR-1) #673129

      Hans,
No success so far with the three things. You are right, though. The data were exported from an accounting package as a csv file, then imported into Excel using the Text to Columns feature with comma delimiter. I’ve tried several variations on your suggestions also.

I’ve had two successes, as described below.

FYI, the lookup table column is formatted as “General”, while the data are a mix of integers( ex. 12580) and text (a 5 digit number, hyphen, 3 digit number; ex. 12579-310).

      (1) Cells containing the hyphenated values return the lookup values without problem.

      (2) For the cells with integers only, add an apostrophe at the beginning of the cell with the lookup value (ex. ‘12580). This still requires manipulating every cell, so it’s not an improvement over the F2-ENTER solution, but it may be a clue as to the root cause.

That’s it for now. Onward and upward. Andy
