Dropbox still seems expensive when compared to BitTorrent Sync Pro which offers all of the selective syncing you mention without the hassle of the cloud.

I use the free Dropbox with no features when I must, but BT SyncPro is now available without a monthly/yearly fee, works with all platforms and offers several selective sync options.

      Worth a look.

Wondering, if in a dual boot Win7/Win10 scenario, you are really only running one copy of Windows at a time and as such are using your license appropriately. I didn’t read the legalese (I am already too old) but I wouldn’t feel bad doing it….

Running in a VPC has never really worked out for me. As a PS user, I need all the cycles I can get and giving them up typically hurts.

      Just a thought

Thank you very much. I will contact Suddenlink and look into using a VPN.

I just started using AirVPN and it is trick. Easy to setup and then you can be in any Country you would like. Cheap too….Something like $60 US/year….

Please check out Backblaze a service that I chose over your reviewed offerings that is lower cost and seems to have higher performance and lots of flexibility.

Good article. I did want to add one additional Cloud based service, Backblaze, that offers a slightly different model (price is not GB based) and a two level security capability. http://www.backblaze.com

Word of warning- you probably already know this but it is best to deactivate PS before uninstalling….I think from the Help menu item….

After that, go to installed programs in Control Panel, search for Adobe Photoshop CS5 or whatever and click uninstall.

Of course all of the well known ‘tools’ in Windows look familiar in your rehash.
But you didn’t answer the question or really solve the problem. He needs to repartition the drive and could use a free partition management utility such as EASEUS (http://www.partition-tool.com/product.htm). Increasing his C partition by 30GB is a no brainer and for sure he won’t get that with the goofy MS apps…
I used to use Partition Manager but it disappeared. I have used EaseUS products with no problem for several years.

Interesting- I am intrigued why anyone would want to use such an antiquated tool i.e. so many revs back when the new SW is so much better (and runs on modern HW and OS’s). Don’t you have to install Win 95 to run PS 7? 🙂

      I’m just saying….

I don’t see anything about ‘Windows’ or ‘Secrets’ in this poorly disguised ad for Xbox. If I could give it a ‘0’ I would have, it got a ‘1’.

Blackberry has the best international options- Blackberry Intl plan adds $20 to your bill a month and gives you basically email for ‘free’. BBY use their own servers so its secure too…

All the rest of the capabilities have the extra costs mentioned in the article. I travelled overseas ONCE with an Android phone and it cost me a fortune…

Alright- I read the article….went to the website and can find no place to DL or evaluate this product….I am not a neophyte but lost in this case.

    • in reply to: How to safely use a drive-connector kit #1378790

This post relates to File & Partition recovery and a neat (but not cheap) product that I found to solve my problem

This problem originated from a brief foray into Apple OS X land and virtual (then) and subsequent (now) dual booting WIN 7. As a sports photographer I should have known better but I had lost almost 2000 images and was frantic to recover. Machine wouldn’t boot either OS and the files were gone. Seems like a common Apple issue and Apple users seem to accept….”the files are gone, oh well, time for a cappuccino…”

Sitting in a pile of hair (my own), and after a lot of web searching I uncovered a company called Lsoft (in Toronto I think) I downloaded the demo and I was able to boot see my partitions and see my files. I paid the money and got my files back.

THe company link is http://www.file-recovery.net/ ….I think you guys are the real experts but this product worth its weight/wait in gold.

Comes with two pieces Partition recovery and File recovery.

      I typically play along now:
      1. As a noob- “What key do I press?”….”I don’t have an ‘any’ key….”….”on the lower left?”…..”I have no key with a window key”…..”I have a key with option written on it and command key….”……..Click
      2. My wife is best- She puts them on hold while she ‘boots the computer’- and never goes back- they eventually hang up.

SO much for the donotcall list….

    • in reply to: Which “.NET” versions do I need ??? #1254345

► What to do: If you’re offered updates for .NET 1, 2 or 3, update it. But pass on .NET 4.

SO, I have a program (DxO Elite 6.5) that NEEDS .NET4…..I try to install and come up with failure “Generic trust failure 800B010B”.

      Anyone any ideas?-

I have a brand new (relatively- 6 months) Win7 x64 Dual Xeon box.

      Any help is welcome.

    • in reply to: How to pick and optimize your home router #1234186

The SW piece of router support all very helpful. What I discovered was that the HW piece is more complex. Let me explain. I purchased a dual band Cisco Linksys router WRT610N and a couple of WET610N Wireless Bridges which I was able to configure as I had intended:
      1. 2.4Ghz band for all my legacy WiFi devices
      2. 5 Ghz for my Media Hub- TV connection with the Wireless Bridges

What I discovered was fine performance for all my legacy devices and lousy performance for the 5 Ghz band devices.(I eventually reconnected on 802.11g 2.4Ghz to get ‘best’ performance.)

Researching I discovered that the actual power output for the 5Ghz band as specified in the Linksys spec
      UNII-1 (5150-5250GHz)
      802.11a: Max. 14.0dBm @ All rate
      Wireless-N 20MHz: Max. 11.5dBm @ All rate
      Wireless-N 40MHz: Max. 12.0dBm @ All rate
      UNII-3 (5725-5850GHz)
      802.11a: Max. 17.5dBm @ High rate
      802.11a: Max. 20.0dBm @ Low rate
      Wireless-N 20MHz: Max. 17.5dBm @ High rate
      Wireless-N 20MHz: Max. 20.0dBm @ Low rate
      Wireless-N 40MHz: Max. 17.5dBm @ High rate
      Wireless-N 40MHz: Max. 21.0dBm @ Low rate

I don’t believe the output power was performing to spec but even so the combo of transmit power shortfall (UNI-1) and receive sensitivity differences made a totally unusable system for me.

Worse, I discovered (now that I am looking for the highest power 5ghz solution to replace this set-up I have) that the new Valet line of products don’t even a publish TX/RX performance specs at all.

This ought to be a huge warning for all potential 5Ghz customers- output power, MIMO functionality, receive sensitivity.

      FWIW
