Ahhhhh… Thanks… smile …I got caught taking your wording too literally… laugh …I thought the buttons actually said those words on the face of them… Francois is right… I believe you are going to have to hide the standard navigation buttons and create your own…

You’ll have to add on click event code to the buttons… that will check the record for changes and bring up the message box when necessary…

      Hi Chris…

I think I could actually help with this one clapping, IF I understood more about this form you’re referring to… smile

I’m assuming from what you said, that the database was created by someone other than yourself?… Are you even able to get into Design mode for the form?

Command buttons don’t do anything unless you tell them to… If you put one on a form and didn’t add any event procedures (or macros), you could click to your heart’s content and nothing would happen… There is code there (or macros) for the click event one of those buttons (if they do anything)…. but we need to know if you have editing capabilities on that database first…

      Hi Stewart… smile

Ummm… k… At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot… baby… lol…. can you tell me what “CR/LF” means??… (I don’t think I’ll ever remember all of these acronyms… laugh) …and how I would check that??

I’d love to see the code that you have! …Thank you so much for offering…

The user doesn’t download anything really… The text file is placed on a shared network drive by someone in another department… The file is placed on the drive with a .file extension…. and the code I wrote changes it to a .txt file and then it is imported to Access…

I don’t think it’s something the user is doing… or the machine… because I am getting the same problem running it on my machine… AND the same problems occur if I try not using the code and doing each action manually… It’s very strange how it works fine if the people on the other floor run it…. and the fact that it worked for well over a year here, with no problems at all… I’m truly confused about how this could be happening…

*sigh* ….Oh well… It’s not the first time that Access has gotten me confused… and I’m sure it won’t be the last….

      Have a great day!

Thank you so much for the help! …It worked perfectly… smile
      Your instructions were wonderful!

      Have a wonderful weekend!

    • Thanks Charlotte… smile

I haven’t got the service packs yet… but I have a call into the tech guys to come and do it… (I would just download and install them myself…. but the Microsoft site said something about having the original installation CD and/or network install information)…

I did what you suggested and checked for stray ldb’s… None there… Then I did the decompile… It opened without error, but as soon as I try to compile I get a Dr. Watson error… blamo… Shuts Access down… Then if I try to re-open the mdb… Same old Automation Error…

I have recreated the up-to-date database from one of my backup copies… but I’m afraid that if I compact it in a week or so, this will all happen again…. Plus I am still concerned about what is going on with all of the databases in the last week…. For now, I’ll wait until I talk to the network guys and find out if there’s anything new going on with that drive… and post another question later if I don’t figure it out…. (I HAVE to know… lol)

If anyone has any more ideas or have experienced the same problems… Please share… smile
Thanks again for your help… It’s always appreciated!!
