You may already have thought of this, but one possibility is that the taskbar is auto-hiding the new mail notification. Have you tried right-clicking on a blank area of the taskbar and choosing ‘Properties’, and then ‘Customize’ next to ‘Hide inactive icons’. You should be able to tell it to ‘Always show’ for the envelope. I use Outlook 2002 with XP-pro, and have never had a problem with that (although I do have other complaints – but they are no worse than with Outlook 2000).

I’d hoped that would be the case, but it doesn’t seem to work :-(. I have a “No personal” filter, but it still exports the whole lot. Obviously you could copy the non-personal items into a second folder and then do save as web page, but that seems like a bit of a pain…

I was also looking for a way to do this, and found the only solution was ‘Save as web page’. However, a big problem with this (as far as I can tell) is that there’s seems to be no way of filtering the information that’s saved. Does anyone know of a way to make it, for example, exclude private appointments, or simply use blocks saying ‘Busy’ for times when private appointments are listed? It seems fine otherwise, but this is a real pain!

Thanks for the suggestions. I had actually checked out Dell’s Forum already and seen those problems, but none of them were the same as mine (i.e. *restarting* while in Suspend), and I didn’t get any helpful responses to my posts there. Oh, and I mistakenly referred to ‘Standyby’ earlier, when I was really talking about ‘Suspend’ (Hibernate works just fine).

I’ve now upgraded BIOS (and disabled the automatic “Suspend after x minutes” option) and everything else that I could think of, so will give it a go again. So far, 2 attempts have been fine, but it remains to be seen whether this continues…

      Thanks again,

      Alex

    • in reply to: Favorites subfolders not expanding (6/XP-SP1) #676425

I’ve got quite a few (a count in Windows Explorer shows 684 files and 72 folders – although that does seem a bit excessive, since I can’t think I’ve created all of those!), but I’d have thought my computer should be able to handle it (P4-M 1.8GHz, 512 RAM, 40GB hard drive). Also, it’s not like I’ve recently (to my knowledge) added a whole lot, yet this problem only seemed to start a few weeks ago.

    • in reply to: No standby option (XP pro SP1) #673610

Thanks for the reply. You may be right, although it’s a bit strange, because under Windows 98 the computer did have the ability to ‘Suspend’, which seems to me more like Standby than Hibernate under XP. Also, under Power Options | Advanced, it does say something along the lines of “Windows has detected that your computer is capable of advanced power management…”.

Anyway, will see what the BIOS update does.

Cheers, OldDog, but I do have OE installed so I don’t think this is related. Anyone else out there had similar problems, or know of a solution?
