What I have ended up doing is setting out that page layout I want with a placeholder resized to fit the size of the graphic and placed in a specific location. I have used an Object placeholder, so that the user can just double click the placeholder, select “Create from file” and browse the files on their machine and select the picture they want.

However, I know my users well, and I know that they will make mistakes(!). It appears to keep the shape size and location of the placeholder when I use undo, but it is when I delete the picture that the placeholder jumps back to the original size (about half the powerpoint page) and it moves out of place. I’ve played around with it quite a wee bit now, but I can’t see how it will work. I’m just going to have to make sure my users know to only use undo.

and I have checked – it is definitely Office 2k (SR1)

      Thanks
      Lauren

Thanks to you all for getting back to me. Although it appears that all the things I want to be able to do are the very things that I am not able to do! I want to use placeholders and I could get by with just one more Master slide….

Anyhoo, I have gone down the road of a file containing template slides that can then be pasted into a new presentation. Only one wee question this time – is there a way that I can limit the size of a placeholder on a slide. I’ve noticed that if I set a placeholder to be a certain size and then insert an image, the image takes the size and proportions of the placeholder. But when I undo this action the placeholder reverts to its original size and moves out of position.

It may be a small point, but my users can be really dim sometimes!!

      Thanks

      Hi there,

I don’t really have an answer to your question…but I know a place that might help: http://www.slipstick.com. I’ve found it to be the best resource for creating custom outlook forms – and if I remember rightly they have a few sections using the contacts as examples.

Sorry I couldn’t be more help! Good Luck!

    • in reply to: Double Sided printing (Word 2000 SR1) #679529

      Hi

Thanks for getting back to me….but I’ve checked the duplex properties and the page setup and both are fine. I perhaps should have made myself clearer…y’see double sided printing works perfectly well as long as there is no change between portrait and landscape pages. It all prints fine if it is all portrait or all landscape, but after changing between portrait and landscape the double sided flips. I know it would be simple enough to print out the portrait and landscape sections separately…but I need to make it as easy for my users as possible!!

      Thanks again

    • in reply to: Using the HTML Filter (Word 2000 SR1 with html filter) #668907

Yes Alan, they are primarily textual documents (apart from one wee Horizontal line – used on all the pages that will be created – therefore I only need one folder to hold this image! There will eventually be 1000s of pages created and I just can’t have all these empty folders cluttering up my directories!

Thanks to all of you who have helped!

I’ve now got it working…..that was only part one of the problem though…..

      Cheers!

Thanks – I’ll look into it!

Thanks for getting back to me Gary.

That help sort the first part of the problem…but how can I then pick out the details associated with that user? Would it be possible to mark the row number in the array, then display the other entries within that row?

      Thanks again

    • in reply to: Populating fields in forms (Word 97 SP2) #644062

Sounds as though I may have bitten off more than I can chew….I’ve had a chance to think about it a bit more, and had realised that our bosses can’t type either and the secretaries can be working for up to 6 people at a time.

So what I thinking is to compare the username of the person logged on, with an .ini file. The first time a person logs on and opens one of the forms they will be prompted to fill out some basic information – which is then written to the .ini file and stored for the future. This info in turn can then be used to populate fields in a number of templates.

      Sounds OK so far?

But I’m curious as to how you can prompt the user to switch to become another user or to “impersonate” another user? I was thinking of a locally stored .ini file, so how do you get round the problem of updating the file on everyone’s machine when someone new starts?

Sorry if I appear dim, but I don’t want to go down the wrong route…..
