Thanks Paul – don’t you just love Microsoft features!

      Hi Joe,

The deletion is a manual process (though there is the option to File, then delete automatically – this may well be the way forward). I have looked to see if there is a way that this can be changed back to ‘filed’ however I’ve not found it yet! I’ll log a support call with the developers and see what they suggest..

      Thanks!

Is the filed email replaced by a shortcut / link or is it just an icon change. If it’s just an icon change you’re probably better off running a process against the mailbox that checks the icons are correct.

      cheers, Paul

      Thanks Paul,

It is just an icon change – the item remains in the mailbox until it is deleted manually. I have never heard of any utilities that check that icons are correct – are there any you can suggest? However, I would think that as far as Outlook is concerned that the icon is correct – the item was filed to our DMS, and after that point in time it had a sync issue – so the last action reported against the item is the sync.

I have a couple of other users on Outlook 2003 with Cached Mode on, and even though they have lots of items in their sync folders, none of their items in their inbox/sent items are marked as having a sync problem. Is there a reg key to switch this off, or is it just a ‘feature’ of 2007?

      Thanks

    • in reply to: Continuing numbering in outline numbering styles #1479071

      Thanks for the response Andrew,

I take your point on my second issue and have now separated out the list elements from my styles – I completed more testing and noted that the numbering styles that have been in use for the past 10 years have the very same problem and no-one had mentioned it..I must test too well!! 😉

For the first issue – providing a bold heading while retaining the same outline numbering – I have tried your coding, and while it certainly creates a set of numbering styles based upon those that already exist, all I changed was the format to be bold, yet when it is applied it is restarting the numbering and not continuing from the previous set.

However, this has made me notice that within 3 of the inbuilt styles (see image) 38646-styles2 that when I highlight a line of text and then set it to bold, it also Bolds the number. This is all that I am looking for! I based my numbering on the set marked yellow in the attached image – Is there a reason that once I have renamed and reformatted the style that when I apply bold to a line of text that only the text is bold and not the number??

      Thanks for the response Richard!

That is exactly what I have done – however we have a very specific visual ID and people should only be using the styles that are defined in normal and no others. I know that this sounds a bit anal, but our marketing department is determined that each document that goes out our door uses these styles and no others. I just know that if people open a document and are presented with Heading style in a lovely shade of blue in a non-compliant font, the temptation will be too much, and our marketing team will have kittens when they see it. 🙂

      Thanks anyway!

Personally I would go to 2010 as I’m not a fan of 2007, however we currently have licenses for 2007 and would have to pay more for 2010 – and we’ve already spent too much this year 😉 Thanks for these links – they have unfortunately not helped with this issue, but have with others. Its just a shame the consultants we used couldn’t have forewarned us..

Excellent Joe – I’ll have a look at these articles and hopefully will be able to get this working again. Exchange was only upgraded a couple of weeks ago, and I understand that we were installed to SP3 (which I understand to be the latest version available) and we are on SP3 of Office. We are planning to move to 2007 before too long, which I believe will come with its own issues (thanks Microsoft!!) but may at least help to resolve some others…

      Thanks!

    • in reply to: Word 2003 – update field on print #1426400

I had a good search through the registry and the only difference I could find was the Data key, so I feared that this would be the case…though I’m sure that we had this set in a place I worked at a while back – maybe we just had the setting set on the base image..

I’ll give the macro a try and see if it makes a difference – thanks!

    • in reply to: Word 2003 – Zero Byte file #1421439

      So, would the process be:

File is created and saved – file exists in save location.
Changes are made. These are stored in memory until next save
At next save, a tmp file is created, the original file is deleted and then the new file with changes saved.??

This being the case, there should be a tmp file for each save – should this be cleared out when the new file is saved? If this is the case, then when I have found a tmp file in the past when data has been lost from a file, I’ve been lucky!!

      Thanks

    • in reply to: Word 2003 – Zero Byte file #1421130

Yeah – it strikes me from everything that I can see and have checked out that the original save was somehow messed up, and though he says that he was saving throughout the day, those changes were somehow being written back to the zero byte file and therefore failing. Is it feasible that he was working entirely in memory all day, hence why it looked like everything was OK?

I have searched his entire machine for ASD files and only managed to find one file, but this was dated back in January this year – and again was a 0 byte file! Autocomplete is definitely on, so I guess that I have to find out why this isnt working either 😉

    • in reply to: Flickering mouse pointer when inserting comments #1393210

I’ve just ahd another look at this issue – it seems to be completely related to the Reviewing Pane as I see the very same issue with tracked changes as well as comments. As soon as the reviewing pane appears, the mouse pointer starts flickering between a pointer and an egg timer so quickly you think you are seeing things..

      🙂

    • in reply to: Copy entire template #1387922

By Page setup I am primarily referring to the margins. Our letter template has different margin sizes to Normal, so that when printed it will fit onto the pre-printed paper. When I copy the entire contents of the template, the layout comes over fine, but on pasting to normal, it loses the margin settings.

      Hope this makes sense..

      Thanks Andrew,

I know it sounds stupid, however, we work with a Document Management System, that are trying to integrate it with a Digital Dictation System. One of the features of the integration between the two products is that a user can generate a document within the Document Management System from the Dictation making the process seamless for the both the person dictating and the person transcribing. We are able to link Templates to the dictations, but unfortunately we have multiple templates that can be used in each situation and the dictation product only allows a 1-1 setup.

Therefore I was hoping that if a user could create a document with the Normal template, then run a macro to select the required template and bring over the template and the page settings. I have the code to select the template, but what I lack is the ability to copy the page layout..

      Thanks

However, we have a number of templates (letter primarily) that are are designed with a specific page layout

Thanks Charles – the issue is that the document is over 100 pages long and I am trying to to have to go through and identify each and every Cross Reference within the document. What I was hoping was if the _Ref was moved between documents that the cross reference would miraculously start working again!?

    • in reply to: Hidden Bookmarks #1326904

Should have mentioned that we are using Office 2003. Ta!
