Thanks – these are the two i found. It must be my work’s over zelous firewalls getting in the way of the downloads…i’ll fine a way around that though!

I am merging from an access database – originally my thought was to hold dates within the table of addresses and merge them like any other field. Can’t figure out how to get a date into a table though without using a drop down list in each and every line in the table.

I’ll see if i can download these two posts and take it from there.

      Cheers!

Fantastic! I removed the database name from the start up menu and voila, it now works. I can go crazy now and create all sort of documents!

      Thank you!

Thanks for this. I can at least now see all the queries and am getting there. However, I seem to be sent in a loop when I try this so must be doing something wrong!

I have a query that selects only the record on view in the database and the fields I need in the documents – I have tested it with a command button that simply runs the query and it works. I have added another command button that opens Word, and the desired document via a hyperlink, but that then appears to re-open Access rather than looking at the current record in the already open Access! It therefore does not find any record!! I can see that the Word document is pointing at the correct query because the fields it offers for merge are correct.

Am I doing something in the wrong order or do I need to tick or un-tick another box somewhere? I can’t get my head around it at all!

      Fantastic – thank you again!

It is worth noting the capital MM for the month, otherwise the month appears as zeros!

Ah ha….there goes that penny dropping! Half of it is knowing what to call the darn things….I now know what to call things when looking at the “help” function!

      Thank you Hans!

Forgive me once again…a returning novice would best describe my Access ability! I expect I am missing the total obvious and will feel daft when the penny drops. Until then though…

…if I have a table for “Area”, and I have a table “Contractors”, how do I link the two together? There is no common field to join. I don’t quite follow what you mean by having “one record for each contractor – area combination”. I then don’t understand how I would arrange my report come the end… if I had a single field called “Area” I could sort by that, but I could potentially have “Area 1”, “Area 2”, “Area 3″…etc.

    • in reply to: Autonumbers (Access 2000) #935074

Thanks for the tips. I have tried copying the table as suggested already, but the autonumber still remembered the 4400 (ish) number and continued from there. Likewise with compacting the database.
I have thought of creating another table with the numbers stored in, or even some way of running the append query to add one to the last number when creating a new record….all will need some thought and time on my part if thay are at all possible! My other thought was to start with a fresh table for the records to go in, starting the autonumbers at the next number – but then i have queries and graphs based on the original table and would need to look at two tables rather than one and that didn’t work! For now i think i will just make do with having a big gap in my numbering.
      Thanks for the help,
      Al.

      Will try this later.
In the mean time I found post 273012 on 3rd July 03…it contains a lot of info and links to Microsof and Norton Personal Firewall….turns out I had to add it to a list of permitted sites (or similar). It was a bit long winded, but worked.
      Thanks for the help,
      Al.

    • in reply to: Date / Time calculation (2000) #695630

Well I never! I knew it would be something simple!! This method works Legare and is very easy – didn’t realise I could add a date and time together like that. (Also, my =CONCATENATE method seems to be working this morning too….don’t know what that’s about!? Maybe it saw this other way and figured out what it was meant to do!!!??)
This way is much easier though, so thank you! It will come in useful!

    • in reply to: Date / Time calculation (2000) #695408

Sorry – doesn’t help!! Apart from that the “Help” function rarly provides any understandable “Help” and simply sends me in circles looking for what words mean (I may be synical here!), what about the times? I need an answer in hours and minutes, not days. (I mean on the spreadsheet here by the way…although the Help function does take days too!!!!)
Maybe I have misunderstood though, do I simply type in =DATEDIF(a1,a2) and it will tell me the difference between cells a1 and a2? So would a TIMEDIF work therefore??
I have to leave work now, but will return in the morning….thanks again for any and all help!
