AskWoody LoungerI’m still hooked on Eudora.
Using 5.2.1 at home and in my opinion it’s the best one
Qualcomm produced. 6 was terrible and 7 has too many
bells and whistles I dislike (or don’t need).
.At work, I had to switch from Eudora to Thunderbird
when a re-installation of Eudora on an XP Pro did not
work with an Error message that it was a 16-bit application.
(Eudora 5.2.1. had been running on this computer for years
but I had to re-install it after a hard drive died.)Thunderbird’s not too bad and Eudora 8 with or without
Penelope launches as Eudora.FYI, Thunderbird misplaced emails in one folder of several years.
I can’t find any file or segment of file anywhere searching with keywords.
TBird just sent them into HellI just installed Eudora 5.2.1 on a new Acer desktop running Windows 7 Pro.
It only works if it’s NOT installed to Program Files (x86).
I install all my Eudoras in C:Eudora name.
Works like a charm. -

AskWoody LoungerI’ve not had a problem of the very few occasions that I’ve used Unlocker. You can download it from Download Unlocker 1.8.7 – FileHippo.com or Unlocker – Free software downloads and software reviews – CNET Download.com rather than its homepage.
Joe
Hi
Maybe I am being misunderstood. I get that message as soon as I click on the link to “Unlocker.” If others don’t get it I have no explanation for that. This is what I see.
This website has been reported as unsafe
ccollomb.free.frThis is Microsoft Security protecting you from yourself.
The address bar in IE8 turns “red”.If you trust a site, add it as a trusted (I’m talking IE8 on XP PRO) site.
Good Luck.

AskWoody LoungerThey must be swamped. I pre-ordered W7 from Amazon Canada at about the same time as you. I received an email notification Wednesday (21 Oct.) that it was to be shipped that day. This morning (22 Oct.) at 11:00 a.m. the post office delivered it to my door.
I’m still waiting.
I ordered an Acer Notebook with Vista because it qualified for the Win 7 FREE Upgrade.
I received the Notebook about a month ago.
I registered it with Acer, then when I went to “order” my Upgrade kit,
their system would NOT recognize my Serial Number as being an Acer
product.
Their Customer Service Centre had to get one of their “trainers” involved
to make sure that my “order” would go through.
Finally it seems it did (they sent me an email screen capture confirming address
and details).
The 22nd has come and gone and I’m STILL waiting.
You’d think that with enough “heads up” they’d want their customers
to receive it as soon as possible after 2359 hours of the 21st or 0001 of the 22nd.
9am would have been OK, too. -

AskWoody LoungerHans:
Thanks mate.. that will work fine.. and “yes” it was a bit of overkill eh!! *smiles*
Webgenni:
Thank you also.. still working out what all this stuff can do.. will have to work on what VBA even ISVisual Basic for Applications.
Depending on your age (yes, I’m dating myself—–age-wise that is)
if you’ve had any interaction with Basic or GWBasic, you’ll like VBA.
It’s a very powerful programming language (for some of us old fossils
who still think in terms of

GOTO

AskWoody LoungerYou ought to give MailWasher Pro a try.
I have a filter setup for the very thing you’re overrun with. It’s easy to do and gets 98% of them. The filter says: “if the email has MY email address but DOESN’T have “Albert E Hoffman” included, then mark it for deletion. (I always have my full name inside my email address and spammers haven’t yet figured that out.) You can, if you like, have it automatically delete, but since I don’t have a huge volume, I prefer to scan the list and then hit the button. Every once in awhile the filter does miss one, but not too often.
Thanks. I’ve just had a look at Mailwasher.
The irony of the situation is that we are a Travel Agency
and a huge amount of the emails we receive and do want
to receive, rates high on the SPAM scales.
Emails from Airlines, Cruiselines, Holiday Wholesalers, etc…..
all bear the marks of SPAM. The big red $ signs, For a limited time,
buy one get one free, blah-blah-blah.I am the “filter”.
I let through and redistribute to all the staff the ones
about Walt Disney Cruises or a new one (therefore not on our white-list)
which we might be able to push and sell within our market demographics,
and delete the ones selling a 7 nights (no days) in Count Dracula’s castle,
for left-handed honeymooners with blood type, Z negative.I was just worried that, in Thunderbird, declaring an email received from
Albert E Hoffman as “Junk” would not let Thunderbird
teach itself —eventually— that anything FROM *@ouragency.com
with or without Albert or the whole string “Albert E Hoffman” was Junk
and that Thunderbird would one day junk the email from our President@ouragency.com
finally, giving me a raise. -

AskWoody LoungerIf you use Exchange Server, then there are no Internet Headers for internal mail. You may be able to use that differentiator to write some Outlook rules to deal with these messages.
The thing is, we use our ISP’s mail service.
It’s up to us (the clients, using Eudora and/or Thunderbird, never Outlook or any
MS software) to set the filters.
Unfortunately, the &^^$%&%^^ spammers have asos found our real names
and variations thereof, names that go with the emails so, I do get emails from:“real name” or
real name <name or full real name etc….. @domain.comUnfortunately neither Eudora's nor Thunderbird's filters have
an item for some of the more sophisticated rules or scripts
you advocate. It's just a headache that we have to learn to live with and
our ISP is unable to come up with a solution. He (They) has
been fantastic with us and I'm not willing to switch ISPs (or
email clients) just for this.Is anybody considering bringing back the death penalty for Spammers
and Malware-writers and no-parole-no-imprisonment-immediate-electrocution
for virus writers? -

AskWoody LoungerAssuming that your security software is active and up-to-date, it almost certainly means that another, infected computer has been sending spam with your e-mail address as sender, so that you’re getting the delivery failed messages. There is little or nothing you can do about that, unfortunately.
The worst thing about this situation (when SPAMmers are sending out junk AS IF it were coming FROM you, is that you cannot blacklist or filter out emails coming FROM you (or your domain).
At the Travel Agency where I work, we have started receiving dozens then hundreds of emails
signed by existing_names@ourdomain.com and fictitiousnames@ourdomain.comWe have to all bear it with a grin and delete the messages on a one-by-one basis.
We have to make absolutely sure NOT to mark them as Junk or Spam so that
legitimate messages can come through. -

AskWoody LoungerI’m a new newbie in Woody’s Lounge.
I’m running Netscape 4 (with Java and Javascripts disabled for Safe —well! safer—Surfing) and 8
IE8
FF 3.5.3
Google Chrome and
OperaWithout being able to pinpoint features exactly, some sites and/or searches,
somehow, feel better or more “right” with one or another. You’re absolutely correct. I like Opera too (and the browser, as well)

AskWoody LoungerWelcome to Woody’s Lounge!
I agree with Hans. Go ahead and install Chrome, it won’t hurt anything. Just don’t tell it to be your default browser. You can run IE, Fx AND Chrome on the same machine without any “interference” one with the other.

AskWoody LoungerIt’s 7 minutes to 10 (21:53) local time and Roger Federer is about to take to the courts to face Juan Martin del Potro in the US Open finals.
But I’ve got to work tomorrow
Should I or, shouldn’t I?
P.S. It’s now 21:55 HELP!
P.P.S You did see this magic shot, didn’t you!
That’s why I never watch Tennis “live”.
I record it (Rogers PVR in Canada) and
wait until the match is over and then Play it, with
FF through commercials.
