The info on Jim’s Toolbox says Windows 10 & 11. Does anyone know if it runs on Win7Pro?

…I don’t know HOW I originally missed this article in March…

I have been using Quicken98 for at least 24 years now. I actually started with an earlier version, but when it was discovered that the earlier version would not properly deal with Y2K, Quicken gave me 98. I don’t need most of the online features and it works just fine. I have little reason to change!

Don’t know what Microsoft O/S I originally started using Quicken98 with,  but it’s worked fine with XP and Win7Pro.  And if it works with Win7Pro, it should continue to work with 10 and maybe 11. I think I had to “tweak” something to get it to run on Win7Pro.

My only bitch is the various changes and incompatible updates to the Quicken Interface Format (QIF). I don’t even know what they are using today… (QFX?) There are converters, but haven’t found one that works well. I’d like to import current electronic files for my 401(k) accounts…

PL1, you are correct… I tried downloading a TY2023 tax form on another computer where the browser (Firefox) was set to natively open pdfs within the browser; as opposed to ceding control over to Adobe… and the file opened in Firefox with fillable fields enabled!

When I updated to a newer version of Adobe Reader (“Adobe DC”) the pdfs opened fine in Adobe. However… I hate the newer version of Reader! It has a bland look and the layout is very “busy”. Options and tools are very hard to find. I wish they wouldn’t… “fix” things that aren’t broken!

    • For many years, up to and including the 2022 tax year; I was able to download all common IRS tax forms as pdf files from the main IRS website. (Note: I was NOT using ANY of the “free-file” or online options). I could open those pdf forms on my computer and fill in all the fields I needed using Adobe Acrobat Reader. I could then save the completed file(s) on my computer, print a copy and submit it by mail.

For “this” year (tax year 2023) I again went to the main IRS website and downloaded the 1040 pdf form… The form opened with the following Adobe dialog box: form-error   Looking into the document properties, it turns out that fillable fields have been deliberately disabled.

      Huh?

It now appears that the ONLY way you now can create a “fillable field” IRS form is via the IRS “free file” web page. This has to be done online over an internet connection to a 3rd party website. You cannot even save the completed file to your own computer. It is saved on the 3rd party site and is permanently deleted at the end of the year.

I understand that they are trying to encourage electronic filing, but deliberately disabling the ability to fill in the existing fields is going a bit to far. Is there any solution to the fillable fields issue?

      Thanks!

…Sorry I didn’t “peep” sooner! FF Ver 113.0.0 solved the issue of spawning hundreds of processes on exit. It closes quickly and normally now. I also updated to 113.0.1 and noticed no changes from 113.0.0.

      Thanks, everyone!

I have updated to Firefox 112.0.2 and it has made the “spawning excessive Firefox processes on exit” issue WORSE. Instead of an additional 180-200 processes, it now is spawning up to 270 additional processes on exit. CPU usage goes to 100% and memory usage goes to over 90%. It takes even longer for all these processes to close, rendering the computer useless until they all close.

For the record, I have run Firefox in Troubleshooter mode and have tried a different user profile to no avail. I am running the standard “System Theme- Auto”.

I am having multiple issues with Firefox since updates 112.0.0 & 112.0.1  Every time I now close out of Firefox, up to 180 additional Firefox “processes” are spawned in task manager. CPU usage peaks at 100% and memory usage goes through the roof. It takes approximately 2 minutes for all the processes to close and in the meantime, my computer is essentially not responsive. This happens every time I close Firefox.

The other issues now are that Firefox will spawn multiple “Crash Reporter” tabs and/or multiple “XULRunner.exe” error boxes; also upon exiting Firefox. I can’t even find XULRunner.exe anywhere on my computer. These 2 issues also started with 112.0.0, but do not happen “every” time I close Firefox; but they happen frequently. I’ve never had any serious issues with Firefox until now, and I have been using it for quite some time. Running Win7 Pro X64 SP-1, build 7601. I have made no other changes or updates to my computer.

Ideas? Solutions? Another user (Windows 10) and I posted this in Mozilla Firefox help, but no solutions yet.
