Very sorry to hear this news, we lost a titan in Woody.  Glad that his legacy lives on here.

Hmm, my Exchange 2019 on premises mail server was working just fine 🙂

Exchange Team has released a hotfix which fixes the March 2024 SU bugs as well as introduces support for ECC certificates.

That Exchange update breaks a ton of stuff.  I’m personally holding off on it.

Probably worth noting that the Exchange update was CU14, and the CVE was addressed by enabling Windows Extended Protection not any particular new security update, so if you had that enabled you were already good to go.

Dustin Child’s blog post would lead to an incorrect conclusion regarding Exchange; there were no patches issued this month.  They just published CVE’s that were already patched in the August security update.  https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/exchange-team-blog/september-2023-release-of-new-exchange-server-cves-resolved-by/ba-p/3924063

The Exchange server updates are borking German language installations.  Unclear if others are affected but due to the lack of English (or other) language users complaining about it, might just be specific to them.

Right-click on a file and look at the flyout menu on “Send to”. “Mail recipient” is one of the options. Left click on “Mail recipient” and that will open Outlook with the file attached. Click on “To” in the header and it will open the address book.

That’s the “old” behavior that has always been there but is now made a step harder to do (Right click, Show More Options, Send to).  The hope was that this update would make Outlook an option from just right clicking and clicking “Share” or “Share” from within apps like Snipping Tool.  Alas for me it does nothing.

I can’t seem to get “This update improves the sharing of a local file in File Explorer with Microsoft Outlook contacts. You now have the option to quickly email the file to yourself. In addition, loading your contacts from Outlook is better” to work.  Still doesn’t show Outlook or any Outlook Contacts in the Share menu from File Explorer for me on Windows 11.

IBM Model M keyboard is the best ever made.  I have 3 I got off eBay.  If you want a slightly modernized version, a company called Unicomp makes them new, they bought the tooling from Lexmark who bought it from IBM, and they are a pretty true reproduction of the original.

January 10, 2023 at 5:45 pm in reply to: Batten down the hatches for January updates #2518215

FWIW I have a couple of Windows Server 2012R2 servers and I cannot get the January update to install on either of them.  It gets to 95% downloaded and then the “Windows Update” service begins consuming tons of CPU and it never advances.  I’ve had one machine chewing on it for over an hour.  I may download the update direct from the Microsoft Update catalog and try that.

EDIT: downloading the MSU directly from Microsoft Update Catalog works fine.

This is the #1 gripe/fear/concern about Windows 10.  How you can you really trust it whenever Microsoft can just “push” something to it without warning or consent?  What else can they (or do they) do?
