I agree. Although I’m still using Quicken I have road tested KMyMoney and consider it a viable alternative.

Exactly as you say. Original disk, CD/DVD drive install, no compatibility mode set, just ran it and it worked. Phew!

Can’t give you any more info as you’re using a newer version.

      Good luck!

I have an original Quicken disk and was very pleased when it installed and read my old files (copied over from W7) with no issues. If you don’t have a disk for your version, depending which country you’re in, you may be able to obtain/download one online, though I can’t say whether your old files will transfer or if you might have to rebuild some accounts?

I’m testing https://kmymoney.org/ as replacement for Quicken and so far impressed with it.

So – last week I installed KB5000802 via Windows update, now running 20H2 v.19042.867

Print tests successful on ancient Canon MG6400 printer and CutePDF app (both type 3

Optional KB5001649 offered but not installed. So far, so good.

I’m still using Quicken 2001 !! Fresh installs on both W10 1909 and 20H2 with no problems so far (fingers & toes crossed). I’m happy entering data manually so have never used online account sync.

Just in case, I’ve parallel tested KMyMoney, which I would be happy to use if I ever lost Quicken. I believe there are online banking options, and you can import QIF files (though there may be initial reconciliation issues if you have interconnected accounts).

Yes, that’s why I have Pro not Home. I prefer to be in charge as much as possible!

Despite having notification unticked in Settings, the nag screen popped up again this week (after installing December cumulative update). I’m hoping I am now rid of it by following this link

      https://windowsreport.com/disable-get-more-prompt-windows-10/

which describes how to add the suggested registry items (which were missing in my registry)

One Dell desktop and one Dell laptop both backed up, cloned and updated with KB4549951 this afternoon. So far, so good.

    • I let it update when it needs to and only do quick scans when it needs to as I don’t go trolling the Internet.  I just checked and my antivirus definition is:  1.313.1607.0   So it looks like it has not updated to the problematic version.  I’m not about to tell it to update; I’ll let MSFT figure this out.

Likewise, mine’s set to quick scan as standard. Looks like MS may have done half a job going from 1638 to 1666?

    • Just done full scan with v.1666 – Yes it’s crashed, about to reboot.

Rebooted. Same v.1666 signatures. Service running. Smart scan finished ok, normal (?) service resumed (for the time being).

    • Windows ran an auto scan about 10.33 GMT, no issues reported.

Checked security after seeing this thread – service had stopped. Service restart crashed so did system restart then ran a manual scan. No issues and service still running as I write.

Update list shows defender update 1.313.1638.0 was downloaded and installed before morning  scan, but I’m now also seeing 1.313.1666.0 installed at 13.31 i.e. immediately before latest scan.

1638 was the year of the Great Thunderstorm in Devon, England

1666 was the year of the Great Plague and the Great Fire of London !!!
