Started working life as a kitchen porter at a large department store, before going on to train as a chef. After a bad career move, I gave up catering and went into clerical work. I had an interest in computers and within a couple of years had become the IT officer with the Local Authority parking department. I was the first line defender, doing jobs that saved the department from having the expense of a full-blown IT department working on small issues. in 2014 I had heart surgery to repair a mitral valve and in 2016 I took early retirement. I now work two days a week as a kitchen porter/pot wash in a local cafe.
