    • Yes . . . after reading that others had been successful installing both November’s SO (KB5046705) and December’s SO (KB5048676) Updates for Windows Server 2008 R2 earlier this month, I decided to install December’s updates a little earlier than Susan’s usual MS-DEFCON Notice. I downloaded November’s and then December’s into the W7ESUI folder and then ran the script.

Great news — success! And those of you who install the monthly Rollup only need to install December’s Rollup (KB5048695) as it’s cumulative.

By the way, there is no MSRT update for December.

Looks like we’re back in business! Many thanks to @abbodi86 and to @PKCano!

Not off-topic at all, @NTDBD, since it pairs well with your original post 🙂 Some (most?) of us knew it was sarcasm and humorous . . .

A peaceful and happy holiday season to you as well!

    • in reply to: Did AOL change my Desktop Outlook POP settings? #2725256

@Cybertooth, although I can’t offer any hypothesis, I really sympathize with you 🙁 As another one who uses Outlook with 2 different verizon.net accounts, I remember when we had to go through the so-called “migration” after Verizon bought AOL (and Yahoo!) plus AOL’s “app password” *&^% because we use Outlook.

I cannot imagine how your POP3 settings had been changed suddenly from verizon to yahoo when neither your wife’s nor my verizon.net address server settings were. I’m sure you did not make the change — heck, at no time was ‘yahoo’ even mentioned in any of AOL’s instructions.

Thank you for posting the link to the solution; I’m glad your email is back to normal.

    • Same for KB5048676; we’ll know by the time Susan gives the “all clear” later this month.

    • @George1, by definition, the monthly Rollup updates include IE11, whereas the monthly Security Only updates do not (we have to install IE11 separately each month).

To your 2nd point: normally, you wouldn’t need to find the IE updates as you install the Rollups each month. However, since November’s updates for Win 7/Server 2008 R2 [Rollup KB5046687 and SO KB5046705] have “issues” and are not being installed by some of us, it was good that you went ahead and installed IE separately.

By the way, if you ever need to find the current IE CU, @PKCano always includes the link to “AKB 2000003” in her post on the second Tuesday of each month. Just scroll down that page for the current month.

If you check Figures 9 and 10 on Deanna’s ‘Spotlight’ page, you’ll notice a “gear” icon; checking that allows for some settings, including “Remember Cleanup Preferences.”

    • @rick41, good question! It may, although I’d want to wait to see if the bug gets corrected and the November updates are re-issued first. Another reason to wait before installing the latest updates.

    • Unfortunately, as noted upstream, SO [KB5046705] also breaks Firefox 115.17.0 ESR. 🙁

    • Indeed. I received a letter from Change Healthcare in September; it was so vague that I had no idea what it was about (plus, I had never heard of Change Healthcare!). After doing some research I learned that the letter was legit, but I had no idea if my data were breached or how/why I received this letter. Mind you, this breach had occurred in February.

It was only last week, when I started my research into whether to stay with my current Part D* in 2025 (Wellcare), that I saw an orange banner at the bottom of its website stating information about this “cyber security incident” and that those impacted would receive a letter. More research: Wellcare’s parent company, Centene, and some of its subsidiaries (including Wellcare), were impacted by this breach.

Thanks a lot, Wellcare or Centene, for not taking the initiative to notify your members about this breach shortly after it occurred. Luckily, I had frozen five credit reporting agencies several years ago, hopefully minimizing any issues.

*Under Original Medicare (in the US), there’s an option to add prescription drug coverage, known as Part D, and this can be changed once per year, between October 15 and December 7.

And yet, if you happen to need to take a home test before, or as a result of, attending a get-together around the holidays, you may be glad you have them on hand. Hopefully none of us will need to take one . . .

    • in reply to: “Ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube” #2709752

      @Andy M, thank you!

Indeed, I have installed uBlock Origin, leaving it “as is” and no longer get any ads or warnings — yippee! I’ve disabled ABP on Youtube as well; however, there’s still intermittent buffering, which is driving me crazy! Is there any ‘solution’ to that?

I’m glad you figured out what works for you so that you can still access YouTube — thanks for checking back here with your update!

I, too, only use Firefox (ESR), and was going to try a couple of the Ad-ons that are noted above to see if either of them works (like you, I’m currently using ABP).

However, given how many here have noted their success with uBlock Origin, I think I’ll start with that.

I’m glad your set-up is working for you (and hope I have similar success)!

I rarely use the Search bar and I never sign in to anything on YouTube either; I use the same link to access a particular topic that usually changes daily.

Hope it doesn’t catch up with you!

Oh no, one year later and YouTube finally found me (ugh) . . . for I am now the recipient of the dreaded “Ad blockers are not allowed in YouTube”! I can dismiss the X in order to watch a video (so far), but there’s much more buffering than there is viewing.

Thanks in advance, everyone, for your suggestions . . . I am now in the hunt.
