    • in reply to: What is normal wake-up time from Sleep mode (standby)? #2211890

I think after I installed the Dell Command Power Manager software it started to come out of sleep slower. The reason I installed the Dell Command Power Manager software, is because the two built in fans seem to take awhile to come on. The laptop was getting to warm on my lap, before the fans would kick in.. The software has thermal fan management settings.

Should I uninstall the software to see if the laptop will come out of sleep faster?

    • in reply to: MS-DEFCON 3: Get the February patches installed #2174493

Thanks for “Get the February patches installed” email notification!

My Window update showed “updates paused” and No link to move from 1903 to 1909. When I clicked on “updates paused” it started to update patches immediately.  I had no choice but to let it update.  Everything updated with no problems. When I looked at WU after the updates, I then saw the link marked Download and install 1909. I then proceeded to install 1909. 1909 installed with no problems.

I thought I was suppose to update from 1903 to 1909 first, then update patches. Seem as though I was not able do this. Am I missing something?

I checked for updates after moving from 1903 to 1909 and the optional patch KB 4535996 showed, which I ignored. I then paused updates until May 5, 2020

    • That bug 1608485 was the problem. I was using Firefox 72.0.1 and Firefox 72.0.2 has the fix. After installing Firefox 72.0.2 and testing it, the problem does not exist.

Version 72.0.2, was first offered to Release channel users on January 20, 2020 (Yesterday)

What is interesting, the bug comments do not mention anything about Microsoft Wireless Display toolbar video interference.

mledman, Thank You for the solution to solve the problem !!
      That was a quick fix.

      Q. What is the date of the driver installed?
Oct 29, 2010, It is the latest driver. The driver came from the vendor HP.

You may need to do a complete uninstall of AMD display s/w with the AMD tool.
I think that is what I will have to do.

      Bluetrix,

Did a reboot after Download as require, results were nothing.
Did a search box search, results were nothing. Still no Catalyst Control Center

Display graphics driver;  AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 is there.

I double checked to make sure I had the correct file using the PC’s serial number CNF0363PHQ in HP’s product search and the File name that came up is: sp50717.exe

Maybe it has something to do with not uninstalling the previous driver correctly?

The file from the vendor (HP) says the Catalyst Control Center is included in the package.

      I am stumped.

      Susan Bradley,

I appreciate you taking the time to explain why KB4524102 does not appear in the Master Patch List. A lot of this computer stuff is Greek to me,  so bare with my ignorance.

As for future windows 7 patches, at the moment my back is against the wall. Because I’m looking to replace my HP laptop before MS stops supporting w7 in Jan. 2020.  That means learning the windows 10 operating system and learning how to patch it. This patching stuff is complex and time consuming, at least for me it is.

Because I’ve been under the weather, I just got up to speed with the Oct. 2019 patches. Hopefully in the next few months I can find a good laptop computer candidate to lessen the learning curve.

      Thanks for the help,

      Sparky

Is there a reason why KB4524102 2019-10 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework does not show up in the master patch list? Am I missing something?

    • “Does this theory match any details you have experienced?”
      Kind of.

      Before installing KB4507420 again,
      update history showed KB4507420 8/06/19
      installed updates  showed KB4506997 8/06/19

      After installing KB4507420,
      update history shows, KB4507420 8/24/19 and KB4507420 8/06/19
installed updates shows KB4506997 8/06/19  (no change)

      No restart was required.

      “It was only mismatched metadata.”
Could have been, Although KB4474419 & KB4512506 failed at 1st install and the installation was reversed. That reversal may have shuffled the deck. After that happened that is when WU showed KB4507420 again.

Ran WU again and no more patches appeared and WU is up to date.

      Thanks,

      Sparky

    • My best guess is that you installed it once then it was re-released and you decided to hide it rather than install again.

After installing the August 2019 patches, I then checked for updates in WU again, that is when it showed up.

      Yes, very similar.

Correction; Should say half instead of have.
