Customer also had this problem after installing an app using outlook for sending messages. The simple solution was a registry ‘hack’:
      [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice12.0OutlookPreferences]
      “DisableTNEF”=dword:00000001

BTW change 12.0 if you have an other version of Office.

Right, sound is #1 AND #2. Problem still is that anybody can be happy with hers/his laptop (speaking of loudness) another person is irritated by it. Like an Airbook 13″, that makes no noise at all (or hardly). And that’s what I’m looking for. Has to be Windows and 17.3″. Intel or AMD doesn’t matter.
Read my lips: silence is golden 😉

      Hi BHarder,
It’s the U in Core i7-5500U that makes it interesting, not the performance. U think an i5 or i3 in a laptop would make less noise? It’s merely bookkeeping for clients she does.

Right David, a shop isn’t exactly a quiet place. At least it shouldn’t be 😉

Hi Marvin, good tips, tnx. Already found out about the M, too weak. The i7-5500U will do the job. Gonna look for a laptop with that processor.

tnx for the advise, but client doesn’t want anymore costs on this machine. Do I send it to you? :-))))))))))))))))))))

    • in reply to: Looking for silent new laptop #1529295

Well Sudo15, the old one doesn’t run anymore and yes, that means it’s very quiet (as the grave).

    • in reply to: Looking for silent new laptop #1529293

The problem is not the Windows version but the sound it makes.
      tnx anyway.

That’s one of the series she has now, means bothersome 🙁

    • in reply to: Looking for silent new laptop #1529189

Well, still don’t know which couple of T nb’s you have 🙁

    • in reply to: Looking for silent new laptop #1529172

      I mean which notebooks…..

    • in reply to: Looking for silent new laptop #1529115

      Hi Sudo15,
      Which ones exactly?
The nb is place on a flat table.
She has this problem because she’s distracted by the sound. Others that work on it don’t care about it. As I said: it’s this person’s problem.

Tnx both. The problem is what one describes as quiet somebody else might find disturbing. Circumstances differ also a lot. Just the sound of the fan might irritate a person. I guess I have to demonstrate quite a few before she can agree 🙁

tnx for the reminder. Just to clarify things: I just couldn’t get the SSD starting windows. All efforts ended in the message the disk doesn’t have an OS. I could read the data after a recovery though. Also the startup files were there. Couldn’t get it fixed with windows 8.1 possibilities (was an upgrade from the original 7). Couldn’t install a fresh version of 7 or 8 (as you suggested and I already tried). Thought might be the hd-controller so I put in a working hd from another notebook. That started Windows! No bad controller for sure. Had to be the SSD. Cloned/imaged the working hd to the SSD. That started Windows. Put in an original Win 8.1 dvd and this time the fresh setup worked all the way with the original upgrade license for this notebook.
Seems the imaging overcame the problems on the SSD making way for the fresh install.
      Wonders still happen luckely 🙂

Hi, tried Sudo15’s solutions, didn’t work on this harddisk. Also reinstalling from scratch gave errors related to the SSD. Copied an image from another notebook and that gave life to the SSD. Now I was able to install Win7 from scratch. Phew, took me two weeks. Tnx guys (?) for thinking with me.
