This a good change. but I have never seen the 5 colors being used. 3 colors seems enough. green: go ahead, orange: caution, red: stop.

Just why?!?! It doesn’t take a genius to know that this equals to unnecessary attack surface.

Is it just me or did they start ignoring TargetReleaseVersionInfo registry?

Even though I had set “TargetReleaseVersionInfo”=”20H2”, after clicking the dreaded “check for updates”, 21H2 started downloading & installing…
      Fingers crossed nothing breaks.

October 28, 2021 at 8:53 am in reply to: MS-DEFCON 3: Ready or not, it’s time to update #2398408

I was surprised to see 21H1 start downloading…  discovered that Microsoft had removed my TargetReleaseVersionInfo = 20H2 last month! WTH?!

This month they also slipped in the following:

      • KB5005463 (PC Health Check Application)
      • Photos Media Engine Add-on. How to Remove: Apps & Features >> Microsoft Photos >> Advanced Options >> App add-ons & downloadable content.

21H2 will be the next Windows 10 LTSC, it is the grand finale in the sense that it will be the reliable version of Windows 10 to be on for the next 4 years… after that it would probably make more sense to move to Windows 11, unless there will be a newer Windows 10 LTSC.

Is there any reason to jump to 21H1 so soon? I would just wait some more get the grand finale of Windows 10 that will be 21H2.

This is a crazy lawsuit, even for lawyers fishing for easy money. I have a feeling it has something to do with China’s sentiments towards Muslims, which is not very nice as we know!

      – Advanced civilizations use energy. The greenest way is to live in mud huts.
How much energy do you think is wasted by the banking industry with their skyscrapers and pointless staff?! or by Elon Musk’s private jets and yachts…

      – Corporations usually do not lift a finger out of the goodness of their hearts and for the greater good. Bitcoin mining can incentivize and speed up the transition to renewable energy.

I use Dell Power Manger’s custom battery settings. but I think it must be supported in hardware for it to work.

If you want to get serious about it, and you have an Android which has nothing built in, get a Bluetooth dongle (chargie.org).

It works great. I have my phone charging 50 – 55% 24/7 and scheduled to top off to 65%.  Even 80% is not necessary everyday for me.

      April 11, 2021 at 11:28 am in reply to: MS-DEFCON 2 – Deferring the April Updates #2356665

I highly recommend setting Windows Firewall to BLOCK outbound connections, and manually allow what you need. Then exporting your custom policy and resetting it periodically. MS messes with Firewall after each windows update!
This way not only you block Windows updates, as well as most snooping, and other apps that call home unnecessarily.

Since working with Firewall interface is a pain, use could use Firewall App Blocker  by sordum.org, which is just a better interface for Windows Firewall.
