Random thoughts… cheers If you have decided what it is that you are going to teach and which version, then I would make up some examples that illustrate what you want to teach and then walk students through how you got there. I would start with the basics, of course, how to open the app, how to use templates and stencils, and maybe other basics and then show your students how each “graphic” was created. This gives you some experience and also an understanding of how you created them. Then I would give them an exercise to create a graphic similar to the one you have used as an example. You might also want to search the web and look for other people/organizations that teach Visio and see what they do and, if possible, how they do it. There are also a couple of books out there on more recent versions of Visio. These may be helpful in deciding what you teach and how. Regardless, I have always found that my students learn better by doing, thus the suggestion of the exercises, if your teaching facility is setup to allow students to “participate”.

I am not sure what you mean by a 90 degree angle to the right, but is this what you are looking for? (Revised attachment) smile

Kit, then I must confess to being a bit confused confused. I have an attachment which follows the directions I outlined in my original posting. Will you tell me if this is sort of what you are looking for smile.

If you highlight the header row in the Table, then go to the View menu and click on Toolbars|Tables and Borders, you will get a small tool bar with an upper and lower row. On the lower row, click on the button about 7 buttons over and it will cycle you through various alignments. The Button has an A in the upper left corner(?) and a bunch of lines under it with arrow points at the ends of them. If you wish to move this around then the 4th button over on the same toolbar section will give you positioning capabilities. smile

Thanks Mark cheers…begs the question of why Microsoft would say it is “not a required upgrade”. I am glad to hear that it is remarkably stable smile. MS has, on occasion, issued SPs that were not.

I will take your advice and “got for it”!!! smile groovin

A question…I am currently running Win 2K+SP1. When I checked the Microsoft site for the SP2 upgrade, it indicated that this was not a “required” upgrade. My question is, if it is not a required upgrade, then why do it? Any insight that anyone would care to provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. smile

Can you describe the nature of the corruption? This might help point in the direction of a solution for the problem. Thanks. smile

Thanks Eileen for your reply. I look forward to the upgrade. cheers and a rose for the effort!

The reason I suggested a separate item is that like a lot of others, I am a bit lazy when it comes to chasing these things and having then all in one place rather than searching for them makes it easier…no problem…the ability to mark “favourite threads” will solve all this.

To Charles…you are right, it will bounce back to the front every time something is added and that serves another, useful purpose…a reminder to go check out the site, if I, or others, have not done so lately…bonus cheers

Thanks Geoff. yikes An interesting outcome, probably one of those “undocumented features” in Word. shrug I do little, if any, work with forms, most of my work is with technical and training types of documentation so I have not had the happy occasion to run into this. smile Is this behaviour prevalent in all versions of Word, or at least 97 and 2000?

You may also want to ensure that this gets updated “automatically” (so to speak). You can do this with a quick macro, or what I find helpful is to turn on the “Update Fields” box under Tools|Options|Print. The “Update fields” box should be the second one down on the left side of this panel. This way, each new printed copy will have the latest “last saved” date on it. Alternatively, you can highlight the field and press to update it manually. HTH smile

Another approach that I have had success smile with is to paste the graphic into a text box and remove the lines around the text box so that the graphic looks as if it is stand alone. I have never had to turn the text box into a frame, but you might try that if a simple text box does not work. HTH smile smile smile

    • in reply to: WORD 2000 TEMPLATES #529256

Regarding the fonts…without knowing the details of your setup for the Normal.dot, all I can do is speculate a bit. Is the Normal.dot shared among a number of people, or are you the only one using this version? Often, but not always, when one font is substituted for another, it suggests that the font, in this case Arial, may not be installed and Word is substituting Helvetica for it. If there are multiple users, then perhaps someone is changing the font unknowingly (or knowingly??). Check to see if you have the “Automatically update” box unchecked on the “Modify style” dialog window. If you have multiple users, you may wish to check that they also have this box unchecked. There may be other things to check out as well and hopefully others can add to this troubleshooting list. If all else fails, you could create a new template and setup the styles the way you want them. I find that this is often the easiest way around these types of problems. HTH

lightbulb If you are looking for something that resembles Notebook paper with lines that can be typed on, I believe that some time back in this forum there was a similar request and someone posted a template (.dot) file that will give you this. If you search this forum with the keyword “notebook”, you should be able to locate the discussion. HTH.
