      1. Go into the Group Policy editor and push things out for 365 days;
      2. Make sure the network connection is set to metered; and
      3. Download and run Windows Privacy Dashboard (WPD).

      Also checking regularly with wushowhide from microsoft to hold things off. I know the question comes from a Windows Home user, I’m currently running 1903 Pro on my machines and nothing is being pushed.

      Well, at least they are being consistent lol.

    • Since we’re talking about local accounts and Microsoft accounts I ran into an interesting situation.

      Using a local account, on the Windows store I have been able to download and log into the Netflix app. Since my account is with Netflix there is no need for me to log into Windows with a Microsoft account.

      Last week when I activated my Disney + account via the web, I went to the Microsoft Store found the Disney + app and ran into a problem. I was able to “add” the app to my “account” but I was unable to download it…unless I signed in with my Microsoft account. Very peculiar that I needed a Microsoft account to sign into the Disney + app, or even to download it for that matter.

      Ultimately I didn’t install it, that’s what my Roku is for.

      This is why I don’t install any version until it’s been out for 1 year, I still get 6 months of patches. Then I move on to the next one lol.

      Never played Candy Crush…ever.  Dirty casual games lol.

    • You mean we can’t use old Win7 keys to activate Win 10 anymore?

    • I have Windows 7 64B Ultimate, I did a fresh install after the GWX fiasco and have been strictly Group B since then. I keep GWX Control Panel monitor on all the time and I have the latest WPD as well. I have do not have this task in my scheduler. I have the March updates installed and Windows Update won’t offer me the KB 4493132, nor is it installed.

      Hope this helps.

    • Windows 10 Home, the way it operates, is functioning as intended with the patching process for users who don’t care about how it updates, just that it updates. The sin here is that as we all agree are that Home users are treated as BETA testers, so that other higher paying customers can benefit from them and their potential woes. This in itself isn’t too bad, what makes it bad is that MS is “charging” people for a license to use the BETA software. Windows 10 Home should be FREE, not associated with any particular hardware, just free. If your using someone to test your software, you have no right to charge them for that use.

      For the occasional word document I need to write or the excel sheet I need for anything, Office 2007 still works great for me.

    • The Weather Network’s Windows 7 App still works great and also runs in Win 10 no problem.

    • Hey Chris B I feel your pain. I currently use Windows 7 Ultimate on my main machine but I have been using Windows 10 Pro on my Laptop (to learn the ways of Windows 10). The update policy I have come with is follows:

      – first install Windows Privacy Dashboard (WPD) activate all its functionality and use it to uninstall all the built in apps you don’t want;

      – set the delay for monthly updates to 30 days and version upgrades to 365 days;

      – never press “check for updates”;

      – download each new ISO for the newest version of Windows 10; and

      – install the version of Windows 10 that came out 1 year ago, so this March when 1903 (or whatever they are gonna call it) is released I will be installing 1803.

      This gives me the most stable version of Windows 10 as it has been out in the wild getting tested by free BETA testers for a whole year and I will still get 6 months of patching out of it. Also WPD will always be updated to fully handle the version I am using, giving me some semblance of control with my machine.

      We don’t have to like Windows 10, we just need to find ways to wrangle it to work for us.

      FYI Windows 7 will stay on my main machine until I am done with it.

    • in reply to: Is Windows 10 Home ‘good enough’ for the Surface Pro 6? #227346

      A friend of mine’s old mac book air died on her and she was looking for a replacement. She knew I was knowledgeable in these matters and asked me if she should get a MS Surface (she was considering using it for work as well as leisure). I am not a Mac fan at all, and I only use Windows and Android but my recommendation to her was, get a new mac book air, because “friends don’t let friends get MS Surfaces”.

      I have to admit she was a little confused with my response but in the end she did get a new mac book air and not the nightmare of a Surface.
