Just be sure… “On the Policies tab, you’ll see two removal policies listed: “Quick removal (default)” and “Better performance.” The “Quick removal (default)” policy should be the one selected.”

Yet another bug in this ‘feature’ update.  When I connect an external hard drive so I can do an updated disk image, the update goes fine. But when I come to eject it I get a message that the disk is in use, so it will not allow ejecting.

Reverting to version 23h2 restores the functionality.  The same for showing network PCs in the Network folder.

Microsoft should be ashamed for releasing this bug ridden pile of garbage on the world and should do the decent thing by withdrawing it and rolling back to 23h2.

This issue isn’t new, its been around for quite some time. The link below will provide some useful information, if you are interested in learning more about it.

Sounds good in theory, but what’s the increased threat of a Microsoft account in practice?

My Microsoft account has no password and is accessed via passkeys tied to my face or fingerprint on each device.

Based on your experience and additional security measures, I doubt there is much difference. I was simply providing an answer to the OP’s header “What happens if you install Windows 11 without an online account?” I was merely suggesting there is an increased risk of threat, not that it was imminent.

One of the biggest differences between a local account and a Microsoft account is that the former is exclusive to the Windows PC you created it on. A Microsoft account exists on the internet, and you can access it on a range of devices, including computers, phones, and the Xbox family of consoles. So, having a local account provides less exposure to threats.

January 8, 2024 at 11:55 am in reply to: Software updater or no software updater? That is the question. #2619379

      The best software updater application I have found is Patch My PC. The app is free and the main features are;

      *Supports bulk downloads and installs.
*Can check for updates on a schedule.
*Able to update all (or specific) programs automatically.
*Doesn’t need to be installed (portable software).
      *Includes lots of custom options.

I rate it as a 5 star utility app.

Thank you Sir_George. Downloaded the file and Windows reported the update is already installed! But the computer keeps wanting to try again with a restart. Perhaps easiest to just to wait for the next round of updates.

You won’t have to wait very long; MS’s Patch Tuesday will be available July 8th anytime after 10AM Pacific time.

Generally, the next update will resolve the type of problem you are experiencing. You can try to download the update from MS’s update site and see if the update download will install.

      The direct link is:

      https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB5028185

Select the appropriate download from the list and go from there.

My laptop PC crashed in the middle of doing an update.  Now when I power on I get a screen that requests a bitlocker key.  I don’t have one or ever had one.  My thought was to just reinstall Win 11 but, the drive is not visible.  The install works fine but it cannot find the drive to install on.  I tried disabling the TPM module and installing Win 10 but had the same results.   Help!!

      Thanks.

I never experienced a problem with Bitlocker, but the website listed below may be helpful.

My reply is to the “Windows Security” icon displaying an exclamation mark. The solution I found, that was associated with that problem on my system, was related to “App & browser control”. The solution was to run “App & browser control” settings and place a check mark in the selections area for “Reputation-based protection”.

      RLozo wrote:

      Hi,

I missed the 21H2 download window and went looking today, 11 Oct 22.

      I found a file labeled “Win_11_English_x64v1.iso” at https://archive.org/details/windows-11-21h2

The downloaded file size is 5,434,622 KB. It was indicated to have been uploaded to the Internet archive on 8 Aug 22.

Neither a Malwarebytes nor a Windows Defender file scan detected anything.

Other than that, I can’t vouch for the validity and cleanliness of the file as yet, and so would appreciate anyone indicating better ways to verify a Windows 11 21h2 iso file.

I’m actually not planning on using this download – at least not in the short term. I just wanted to have a copy of the file.

      Thanks

You can submit the file to VirusTotal. I have provided a link as noted below.

March 19, 2022 at 3:01 pm in reply to: Lost my organised Start menu, can I get it back? #2432620

      There is a free utility for getting back the Windows 10 menu “look and feel” which can be downloaded at the following link;

      https://www.startallback.com/

You will still have to recreate the layout you had prior to upgrading. As mentioned in the post by Alex5723 you can use Win 11 Start Menu at the link he provided. I tried both apps and preferred StartAllBack.
