One factor that many are not aware of – humidity of your location. Having lived in the metro Phoenix area for decades, I found that all inkjets dry out very quickly if not printing every day or two at the minimum. Gave up on them over 25 years ago. Lasers only!
Moved to So. Carolina a few years ago. Found that the inkjets can go weeks without printing and not dry out. Didn’t expect such a difference!

Not surprised, what do you expect of a generation that buries itself in the video gaming alternate reality where they can do anything they want to others with no ramifications. Kinda explains when they are not good at forming healthy relationships with others.

You are the result of what you have filling your mind.

      Welcome to the Club Will.

I’m thinking most of us Quicken users are frustrated by Quicken’s actions of the last several years. I too have been using it since the Days-Of-DOS.

Several years ago when Quicken was starting its roll to the evil side, I looked at the then available alternatives for basic, functional programs. Everything was so limited, so narrowly focused, and/or not really user friendly. Like everyone else I was stuck with Quicken.

Glad to see suggestions of alternatives. Will be giving them a test run.

From article “I’m not sure I understand why Copilot needed to be so deeply embedded in Windows,”

Pretty obvious that it’s all about tracking and control.

Outlook Desktop is about the only reason I still use Windows. Now that it is being trashed (typical Microsoft  S.O.P.), it’s time to begin the hassle of learning everything Linux. Now would rather “Switch Than Fight”.

      Thank you for the article.

Question – What about a NAS using Raid 1 in the same failure scenario? Other than a file error, will drive failure still show on a computer using the NAS? Maybe need to run a background process on the desktop that monitors the NAS?

    • in reply to: Microsoft Password Manager #2553015

Had not been using any Password Managers other than the one provided by default with Edge. And that was only as it was set to automatically track them. May turn it off now.

I use my own methodology for password tracking. Not automatic, slightly awkward but extremely unlikely to be exposed in my environment. And they are backed up a couple ways.

Was always leery of online password managers due to the potential of them being exposed. And low and behold a couple popular ones were! Who would have guessed? (satire)

Thank you for the book reference. Will enjoy the read.

Edge had been updated several times in the last couple months. I suspected something had been changed. Was not sure where to start.

That username/password combo was the key. Didn’t realize that by reusing that combo myself on more than one website, it would be flagged as a “possible breach”. I thought it was related to a website address or an actual breach. Not so.

I like security but that seems a bit much. AI maybe not so smart?

Made some changes in the MS Password Manager. Fixed it.

      Thank you!

Word Perfect is still a GREAT product! I have it on all my production computers.

WP doesn’t require learning some basics with every new version as does MS Office. And it is still much easier to use.

I have MS Office on my computer also. But only use it Kicking and Screaming when having to work with the masses.

For those that don’t know the history – Microsoft heavy marketed Office to the government. So, it was required for any government e-documents. Hummmm… wonder how many received MS stock in return for the government requirement? Asking for a friend.

    • in reply to: Thunderbird: A worthy alternative to Microsoft Outlook #2471881

Not supporting Android is a non-starter for me. I must have the desktop info of contacts and calendar on my phone. At least Outlook has an Android app.

Don’t get me wrong – I loathe Microsoft’s software, don’t even get me started!

I have a 3rd party program that syncs nicely my desktop Outlook contacts and calendar to my G-Contacts and G-Calander. Other Outlook folders could be synced also, but it’s not necessary for me.

For decades I’ve been so frustrated trying to use MS apps. So why do it?

There are many apps that are better, easier to use, better supported, don’t require you to re-learn 40% of the app when a new version is released and likely cheaper!

      Quit drinking the Kool-Aid.
