just rebooted and saw UNAUTHORIZED update restart.

running OSbuild 19043.985 -19043.867

thankfully everything installed OK, but then when I checked,

the HISTORY screen on Win Update SHOWS NO RECENT UPDATE

last successful update was KB4580325 in November & KB4586786 in Dec

Recent failed installs – KB4592449 & KB4598229

 

A week ago I was pleasantly surprised by the seamless success of MS In-Place Updates.

My 20h2 had been stuck in fail to update for 3 months and discover In-Place fixes from a bleeping computer post to my search.

Never knew, dumb me.

Now that I’m a believer I need another one for my wife’s 1909 machine.

Just want to validate your common sense instinct is correct.

Backup tools are such a pain UNLESS:

you need incremental bakups to protect your work. Incrementally saving new files automatically is a worthy goal, can be done at night withhout your effort.

But if you are just backing up all your apps and OS every 90 days, I prefer cloning myself

am betting that installation log files could be parsed to find the offending file names. but alreadybpeeked at those and would take mountains of monkeys aeons to find

thanks to all for all the truly helpful suggestions.

so i found 2 intel driver updates for cpu/vid & audio plus a new intel driver assistant. all are useful / helpful. but still no update possible using either MS “update assistant” or the “installation media”

total fail on gorgeous fast stock intel rig.

grateful 4 yr link. thx 4 the kindness, will attempt next if my “fresh install” test fails.

the NEW intel support app ran perfectly and found new sound driver, but did not call out thst vid driver. so will ler u know.
