The picture of the old scanner brought back memories.  When I could no longer get the drivers I needed I forked out for VuScan software that worked like a dream, better than the original software.  It also ran the slide scanner I had at the time. Sadly the original scanner died after many years.

Interesting article, thank you. I have an Acer laptop and wanted to check drivers as you suggested. The link you give takes you to the Acer support download page which lists 27 drivers and 8 BIOS/Firmware. How do I know what needs updating? Is there a utility you trust that will check this?
      Thanks

Interesting article, just wish I’d seen it a while ago!

One issue I’d like help with. I have a large collection of photos on my old PC, I treat One Drive as a back up of these files but want to keep them locally.  I have a new computer so want to transfer the files (thousands) to the new hard disk. What is the best way to achieve this? Simply downloading from One Drive was schedule to take days!   I tried copying via an external hard disk, but am very unclear what/if One Drive has made of this plan, masses of files all say waiting to sync, Although One Drive system tray says “up to date”!

    • I’ve been using Advanced Renamer (https://www.advancedrenamer.com/)  for many years to catalogue photos amongst other things, It’s powerful and easy to use, even allows you to correct spellings!
