AskWoody PlusI am having trouble accessing several web sites: such as Staples; Newsweek; and a few others that I had no trouble before May 15th. (if I remember correctly!!) I found if I use Microsoft Edge I can, however, I really hate Microsoft Edge!! If Firefox is the problem, how do I roll back Firefox to an earlier version or would it be easier just to complain loudly to Mozilla?

AskWoody PlusPaul,
The copy of the results I just sent was from LibreOffice. Here is, I hope, a better copy from Wordpad:

AskWoody PlusPaul,
I had a bit of a problem trying to print the results of the ipconfig /all.
I physically “copied” the results into Word pad. Here are the results :

AskWoody PlusPaul,
I am using the ISP DNS, for I haven’t changed it.
However, I do use Norton’s VPN. Does this change the DNS server?
When I implement ipconfig /all, I get: DNS Suffix Search List: Home; PPPadapter NortonSecurityVPN: Description: NortonSecurityVPN; DNS Servers: 10.255.0.0; NetBIOS over Tcpip: Enabled; Ethernet adapter Ethernet: IPv4 Address: 192.168.1.36 (Preferred); DNS Servers: 192.168.1.1
Which of the above tells me if I am using the ISP DNS or if Norton is controlling the DNS.
-
Rich Walters
AskWoody PlusI believe I am using the ISP’s DNS servers, for I haven’t changed them at all.
I read in that Microsoft article that if I change the DNS server to Google and then eventually change it back it will work. It states that I would need to change Internet Protocol 4 (TCP/Pv4) properties. Would I also have to change the TCP/IPv6?
I currently use Norton360’s VPN, should I continue using it after I fix this or is this problem not associated with Norton’s?

AskWoody PlusSusan,
I found the registry key to enter in another AskWoody newsletter.
I manually edited the LocalMachine location for Windows Update.
Once I did, I was able to successfully update to Windows 10 Pro 21H1 all of my
Windows 10 Pro PCs.
Thanks for continuing this fabulous newsletter.

Rich Walters
AskWoody PlusSusan,
I used this registry key to keep Windows 10 20H2 from updating to 21H1:
Consider putting in the registry key to defer the next feature release, which is expected to appear shortly. You can download the 20H2 registry key which will block the next feature release from this link.
Where can I find the reversal of this registry key?

AskWoody PlusI have tried to update the video card, but NVIDIA hasn’t posted an updated driver since December, 2016.
It appears that I either try to update with the video driver I have, purchase a new video card or I will just upgrade the motherboard, etc.
I can get a 9.6 inch by 9.6 inch motherboard with an AMD Ryzen CPU, etc.
Each of my PCs have Windows 10, version 1909 on them. Two have have Pro and the other 2 have Home.
What do you think is the best plan?
-
Rich Walters
AskWoody PlusWas there an issue with any of the PCs that you downloaded 2004 compared to the ones that you had the download and install availability?
-
Rich Walters
AskWoody PlusJoe,
I am wondering if I might try updating the one where Windows is saying that I need to wait on Windows to get ready for it.
Do you see any possible reason why I shouldn’t? It is a Dell VOSTO 200, built in either Dec, 2008 0r Jan, 2009. It has 8GB Ram. It is just the video card that Windows lists as a reason that Windows is not ready.
As for the other 2 PCs that I can download and install Windows 10, version 2004, I use both for my business and I want to wait until either Ask Woody indicates that the bugs Microsoft is trying to fix or late September or early October. Do you see any reason why I might do it sooner?
