It’s because it only removed the ActiveX version used by IE11 and Edge Legacy. Edge Chromium includes its own bundled version of Flash (like Chrome). This is removed in Edge 88, which should reach stable channel in January.

Why is 1809 ruled out? It had a lot of troubles when it was released, but seems to be quite stable nowadays. It would only give you a few months extension though.

Just got my first Chromebook today, looking forward to try it out. Still got Windows on my desktop (mainly for gaming and full Office suite), but no more on my laptop 🙂

I think the point of this post is not that there are automatic upgrades, but that they seem to happen on metered connections, which could lead to higher data costs.

I think that they are not actually ”jumping back”. Skip Ahead and regular Fast ring are two different things, so Skip Ahead gets 20H1 and Fast will get 19H2. So both versions are tested at the same time.

Also 1803 has now officially been released to the Semi Annual Channel (formerly CBB). Confirmed on my PC (set to SAC, without further deferral).

Did you manually check for updates after upgrading to pro? In my experience that’s sometimes needed to refresh the settings page.

Are you sure the WinCentral image is the Pro edition? Looking at the Collection Book (which has an image gallery of all Windows builds), I still see the options:

I think Microsoft left the free upgrade open deliberately, as other upgrade methods (Media Creation Tool, product key of 7/8.1) also still work. Seeing as this went on for 1,5 years in which it was mentioned countless times on news websites and forums, I doubt Microsoft was unaware.

Note for Office 2013/2016: as always these updates only apply to users running a volume version (MSI) of Office. Most home users are running the Click-to-Run version and don’t receive updates via Microsoft Update.

It only seems to happen with people using Comodo Internet Security. Most likely a compatibility problem.
