AskWoody PlusDecember 17, 2019 at 3:59 am in reply to: Significant changes for the FAST ring with latest Windows Insider build #2020538Interesting quote: ”And we may deliver these new features and OS improvements as full OS build updates or servicing releases.”
So we may see SP-like updates like 1909 again in the future?

AskWoody PlusSeptember 28, 2019 at 11:46 am in reply to: Windows 10 version 1903 declared “ready for broad deployment” #1967128Why is 1809 ruled out? It had a lot of troubles when it was released, but seems to be quite stable nowadays. It would only give you a few months extension though.

AskWoody PlusJust got my first Chromebook today, looking forward to try it out. Still got Windows on my desktop (mainly for gaming and full Office suite), but no more on my laptop 🙂

AskWoody PlusFebruary 15, 2019 at 10:30 am in reply to: Pssssst… I still don’t believe the part about Microsoft testing 20H1, then jumping back to 19H2 #327460I think that they are not actually ”jumping back”. Skip Ahead and regular Fast ring are two different things, so Skip Ahead gets 20H1 and Fast will get 19H2. So both versions are tested at the same time.

AskWoody PlusDid you manually check for updates after upgrading to pro? In my experience that’s sometimes needed to refresh the settings page.

AskWoody PlusAre you sure the WinCentral image is the Pro edition? Looking at the Collection Book (which has an image gallery of all Windows builds), I still see the options:

AskWoody PlusDecember 28, 2017 at 5:22 am in reply to: Free “assistive technologies” Win10 upgrade going away on Sunday #154627The quote you are referencing is from August 2016, so I doubt it has anything to do with this decision.
I think Microsoft left the free upgrade open deliberately, as other upgrade methods (Media Creation Tool, product key of 7/8.1) also still work. Seeing as this went on for 1,5 years in which it was mentioned countless times on news websites and forums, I doubt Microsoft was unaware.

AskWoody PlusJuly 5, 2017 at 2:07 pm in reply to: The first Tuesday in July is almost over, and non-security Office updates are nowhere to be seen #123418The updates have now been released: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/office_sustained_engineering/2017/07/05/july-2017-non-security-office-update-release/
Note for Office 2013/2016: as always these updates only apply to users running a volume version (MSI) of Office. Most home users are running the Click-to-Run version and don’t receive updates via Microsoft Update.

There’s a lengthy Microsoft Answers forum thread about how KB4022716 kills web browser Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer.
Wow, they must REALLY want people to use Edge… 😉
It only seems to happen with people using Comodo Internet Security. Most likely a compatibility problem.
